Longines Legend Diver - Couple Watches?

I am thinking of getting a pair of sport/casual watches for myself and my wife later. While I was browsing the Longines website, I found that their Legend Divers are gorgeous!

We already have a pair of dress watches. So, now we want to have a pair of everyday watches that are not too bulky but also not overly dressy. I found the 36mm and the new 39mm models seem to be a perfect pair, especially in the chosen colors above. I love history, and the Legend Diver has a lot of history. Especially for the 39mm version, it is very faithful to the original design. I think Longines watches are of very good quality at very reasonable prices.

If you own either the 36mm or the 39mm (or the 42 mm) version, what is your wearing experience?

Within a total budget for both watches of up to C$10,000, what are the other options (either other Longines models or something from other brands) you would suggest for couple watches?

I don't own either, but i have worn the 39mm for about one hour. 17,5cm wrist. And i must say that i hated to part with it. It wears very well, not to big, not to small, not to thick and i LOVE the two crown design.

I i had to pick something to complain about. The dail is ... flat. Nice but flat. I like the dails of the 42 and 36mm better.

I have a long love affair with Longines that first started when I collected vintage watches decades ago, there are a certain number of watches in the brand catalogue that most enthusiast want to own, the Legend diver is definitely one of the several. I picked up a Limited edition black PVD model in the original 42mm case size with date window last year. It is nice my criticism of the watch might read unfair but it does not feel luxurious, perhaps it is the PVD coating or the black finish but I think the steel will be better.

Good choice. Nice to pull the wife into the hobby a bit.

I think those look awesome together (and apart). I'm curious what your wife thinks of them. Or is it a surprise?

The 39mm hits the sweet spot for me too, although I have a smaller wrist (16.5cm). The size is perfect. I do not have any watches in my collection that have two crowns. So, these two would be very unique additions to my collection.

I love Longines. It is one of the two watch brands (the other is the GP) I saw a lot of advertisements on the TV when I was young and was in Hong Kong. It is a brand I have associated with luxury watch from very young age.

I am with you on the PVD coating. I don't like that. I usually pick steel watches. In fact, my skin is allergic to the coating (I had one or two when I was younger). I can only go with stainless steel or real 18K gold.

I think Longines is an excellent choice for couple watches. It is an entry level luxury branch, but it is still considered a luxury branch. So, it is suitable as a gift for the spouse for any special occasion. (Our 27th anniversary is coming this August) On the other hand, it is not cheap, but it is also not overly expensive. It is rather still relatively affordable. And the style of the 36mm with the desert sand color has an antique feel but also looks very trendy, which is a good choice for ladies.

I showed pictures of this watch to her, and she loves it. We will try them on when we are in the shopping mall next time.

I showed the pictures of these watches to her, and she loves them. My wife is very practical. I always get her input before buying anything for her. In the past, I bought her something as a surprise, and she did not like it, and then after speaking to me, she took the item back to the merchant for a refund. 🤣 So, I have learnt a lesson and always consult with her before buying anything for her. Besides, this watch costs a couple thousand dollars.. not cheap. So, it is better to make sure that she indeed likes it.

I wear a lot of black clothing, keen on black watches, personally I don’t object to PVD but in this instance did not look cool. It was under 5k, I special ordered the watch from the ad catalogue so nobody to blame but myself.

I tried both at my local AD, the 36mm was much better fit than the 39mm with my slender wrist. I was difficult to part ways with it.

If you bought from Longines online shop, you can return it within certain number of days. But if it is a special ordered item, perhaps there is some restriction...

A wise man learns from past errors. A good wife also makes a man wiser! 😜

Thanks for the tips about the sizes. I am still at the research stage and trying to narrow down the number of models I am interested. So, I have not visited any ADs to try these watches on yet. I am thinking of getting the 36mm for my wife and the 39mm for myself but will see how the sizes actually look on our wrists, as my wife and I both have small wrists.
