Pagani's grey market - results

I have been looking at how well/badly Pagani Design watches do when re-sold on ebay. So, I looked a week ago at all the "used" listings for Pagani Design on ebay.co.uk. This is just a small fraction of Paganis listed there. Typically, at any moment in time, there are about 2500 PD listings on ebay and about 50 of them are declared as "used". The number of auctions are a similar small proportion, almost all are buy-directly, many allow offers.

That being said, you can sell your PD on, some people do, so let's see how well they did.

A week ago I recorded 59 listings. 31 of those are still open, all direct-buys. 7 direct-buys closed for various reasons:

  • offer accepted (but we do not know for which amount)

  • item no longer available

  • error in listing

6 listings closed without attracting a bidder/buyer. 4 of those 6 requested a starting bid higher than for which the watch retails at AliExpress.

15 listings, mostly auctions, ended sold and with a known sale price. They sold for a total of £676.26. These watches cost new on AliExpress a total of £704.67. That does not quite mean that you get on average 96% of your money back, because these are older models, and Pagani often lowers the price of older models on Ali.

I could not see any particular pattern regarding which models sold well or badly. However, if there is another auction with a lower starting value than yours selling the same model then your auction lot is in trouble. The other lot might even sell for more than your starting value, and yours fails to attract any bidders.
