I’ve held a superficial interest for years. My grandfather saw that I was sporting a DW9052 as my only watch, so decided to give me one of his watches to wear as an everyday wear, which was a Tissot Tradition GMT with an Anthracite dial. Then Teddy eventually came through my Youtube algorithm to really put me in deep.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
G-Shock DW9052-1V
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
I purchased my first watch, the G-Shock DW9052, at bootcamp under my drill instructor’s orders. I went into the MCX (i.e. Marine Corps Exchange, “On-base Mall”), walked into the watch section and just picked the one that I thought looked cool, durable, and not too expensive. Although I didn’t purchase my watch of my own will, I still got to pick the one I wanted and I’ve never regretted the decision to pick that watch as my first.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
If you think you like a watch, take a step back and wait a month and see if you still like it then. Don't just act on impulse.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Nomos, Longines, Cartier
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
Doesn’t exactly exist at the moment, but I imagine it to be a dress watch in rose gold. Lange, Cartier, VC, or Moritz Grossmann come to mind.
