Q: How did you get into watch collecting?

As a child, loved taking random watches apart just to see what was inside. Destroyed a lot in the process. Of course didn’t touch any expensive mechanical. As I grew up, loved seeing all the different watches my Dad and uncles wore. As an adult, got my first quartz Seiko and Citizen. Was gifted a few lineage keepsakes from family members like ma Rado and Orient but those were stolen out of my condo in my mid 20s. So was handed my Dad’s old Rolex 16610 Submariner and fell in love. Later on got the Breitling Avenger Ti Chronograph when I made some money and it’s been an adventure ever since. In my old age, the wants have geared towards the vintage styles and watches.

Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?

I’ve owned a lot of random cheap pieces as a child but picked up my first proper Seiko perpetual calendar after college for job interviews. Recently got it revived with new battery and perpetual date reprogrammed.

Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?

My late Father’s Rolex 16750 from early 80’s was his daily wear and is now in my possession. He went though several different Rolex but wore that for the past 20+ years. I goes into my rotation and can only reminisce of the time it was on his wrist.

Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?

Do you. Don’t get into the hype and go for popular, unless that’s the style you like. Yes they keep time but they are also just a design that shows what you like. It’s like putting a piece of your soul on your wrist for others to see. You look enough at your phone to know the exact time. 😉

Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?

Orient, King Seiko, Baltic, Longines, Omega, Bulova/Accutron, Mido, Laco
