62MAS kind of day

Currently, the best version of the original 62MAS. Running +2 seconds a day. Hopefully, Seiko stops releasing more LE 62MAS, because it does deflate the value and waters down the brand.

Sorry! At least 5 62MAS re-issue per year! This old diver isn't going to milk itself!

Yes..this year it’s the new 63MAS, such as the SPB453, SPB455, etc.

I own the SJE093 as well. Great watch, but I believe it's inevitable that Seiko will keep releasing more, making ours "old news" sooner than we'd like. For that reason, I'm not too attached to it and may let it go. Time will tell

Super late on this train but might buy myself one of these soon. That dial is so pretty ❤️ Hopefully I can get one before they move on to their three new models. They're nice enough, but I want the gray sunburst dial and the new one is just plain old black

Deflating the value and wattering down the brand is kinda their thing. Not just with countless releases and limited editions but with QC issues and ridiculous price strategy they play lately too.

I wonder if Seiko considered these 2 strategies:

  1. Release several slightly different 62MAS models at different price points, or

  2. Release one (or maybe 2) model that’s the “best” version for years, perhaps in 2 sizes and multiple colorways, and maybe update every generation or two

I think most watch brands pursue strategy 2 (think Rolex, Omega, Tudor, etc) while it’s interesting that Seiko likes strategy 1.

Curious if they’ve ever considered strategy 2 and what the reason is for not pursuing it.

Actually now thinking about it, they did strategy 2 with the Alpinists line. I guess they’re experimenting with strategy 1 with 62MAS…

One of my favorie Seikos Tai. Almost 60 years have passed and this watch is still admired by its design and iconic history. Thanks for sharing!

I’ve got two 62mas watches but only one is a limited edition. And it’s one of the best watches I’ve ever had no. 43 of 1300 Sla065. I’ve also got a spb147. I’m a big fan of the SJE093. I might have to let the 147 go and try to get one like yours. Is three too many ? 😂

I'm partial to the SLA and hope they continue making these, but I think the Grand Seiko-derived SLAs are history with the introduction of the SJE. Either way, they shouldn't be limited; if people want them, it'd be nice if they could get them. Couldn't care less about the value of my SLA043.

Too many? I think 3 is to little 😂

My most worn watch at the moment. Perfection.

I sold most of my watches and wear the SJE093 almost every day. Now I'm in the market for a chrono to be it's companion.

I wonder if this is just a Japanese thing. I first noticed it in their cars (vs, say, German cars). The Japanese brands just kept releasing new cars so quickly.

Take the GTR for example. Within a year, a new updated more powerful version came out.

Maybe it's the same thing with watches (and anything else they make). From one perspective, they are improving technology. But from the consumer perspective, the stuff we buy becomes obsolete so quickly.

That's why when we talk about Grand Seiko, I always levitate towards The Snowflake. Every GS model is beautiful, but it's "yet another interpretation of some season combined with the anniversary of something or another".
