Watch purchase decision (speedy FOIS vs SBGY009)

Hi guys, ive been looking at adding a piece to my collection. I currently own in more core collection:

  1. SLGH005 (White Birch High beat)

  2. Doxa Sub 300T Divingstar (yellow)

  3. Longines Spirit Titanium (40mm)

Im looking at adding:

  1. A Speedmaster FOIS (7400 AUD - Australia Dollar)

  2. A Grand Seiko SBGY009 (7800 AUD - Australia Dollar)

I am confused on what i should add, i like the speedmaster and i like the FOIS because its a bit different to the regular pro. I like the handset. Im also a grand seiko fanatic, and when i see the opportunity to own a manual wind GS with a nice golden sweep, i really appreciate it. I am so confused. It makes sense to get the Speedy FOIS, a chronograph since it fits the collection. Honestly not sure what i should do, sometimes it keeps me awake at night lol.

That is a tough one! I have the previous gen Speedy Moonwatch Pro (hesalite) and three GSs, but not one a 44GS case model. Spring drive is an awesome movement. The SBGY009 is certainly prettier than the FOIS. But to me at least, the FOIS is the cooler watch between the two. If it were my wrist and my money? I'd lean FOIS.

But, it ain't my money or my wrist! So let us know what you decide and pics when you get it!

You need a chrono so...

·

Tough one. Both are great. I’d also lean towards the Omega in this case. Given you already have a GS. And, I also think it’s a little “cooler” as well.

·

Speedy. Speedy. Speedy.

I have the fois and I love it. The case, the hands, the applied logo, the side profile - overall it just gives me great vibes. I can dress it up a bit and dress it down, I've found it to be quite versatile.. I also never see them around so they don't seem to be that common. I love Grand Seiko but regrettably I've never owned one (yet). I feel that I never dress up enough or maybe I'm just too casual. So maybe it depends on your lifestyle and where/when you'd want to wear the watch. You in Aus? ✌️

Grand seiko 🍻

·

I'm also a huge GS fan (also have the white birch), and since you have that already, the Omega seems to be a good choice. Do you think one or the other will get more wrist time, based on your preferences? Maybe that might help you decide? Good luck with your decision. Cheers.

Since you already own a GS, get the Speedy

My knee jerk reaction is GS when saw the pictures. Also that I’m a Seiko fan boy. 😅 But after reading your existing list and you already have a GS but no Chronograph, I would choose the Omega to diversify. The speedy is mentioned in almost every list mentioned by notable watch reviewer/youtuber for a reason. It stands out on its own. GS has so many different styles and watches that could all be there own top contender. That’s why I have such a hard time putting my finger on a specific GS grail for myself. I want them ALL.

Back to diversifying your collection, an addition of a chrono like a Speedy would be cool. You’ve already got an awesome Hi Beat. Save the GS for another time. But damn that blue is beautiful 🤩

Good luck and looking forward to seeing your selection on your wrist. And damn, you’ve got a nice collection and soon to be nicer one 🤌

·

My vote is speedy. If you don’t have a racing style watch in your collection, it’s a must have!

·

Considering your current collection, if it was me, I wouldn't hesitate to get the Omega even though the GS is really beautiful. If you didn't already have a GS, then I'd suggest your next watch should be GS, but you already got one, so, Omega.

·

Spring Drive is an amazing experience all its own. That gets my vote. And I adore GS, especially anything in a 44GS case.

·

When in doubt , speedmaster.

·

Speed master!

·

Two completely different watches, hard to compare. I'd just say, why not both? 🤷

·

Spring drive is like no other

·

GS for me but I'm 💯% bias 😂👍

·

I'm not really a fan of Omega or the Speedmaster. But honestly, they are both great watches and worth the money. But the Speedmaster gives you a chronograph AND an Omega to the collection and that's cool. OTOH, The GS gives you a Spring Drive and honestly I just put a loupe on mine and stare at it sometimes. So to me it comes down to a choice between the Spring Drive versus a chronograph and diversity in your collection with an Omega versus having two Grand Seikos.

·

I feel the need, the need for SPEEDY!!

·

Such a two different watches! Hard to say. Both are amazing in their own merit.

·

I'm not really a fan of Omega or the Speedmaster. But honestly, they are both great watches and worth the money. But the Speedmaster gives you a Chronograph. So you'll have a Grand Seiko a Spring Drive, an Omega, and a chronograph. That's a win-win.

·

I’m a massive GS fan but as you have one already it feels like from a ‘collection’ perspective the Omega would fill a gap?

·

Speedy FTW 🙌

Since you have a White Birch already, the GS doesn’t make sense.

Adding a chrono, not to mention an iconic one, is the way to go 👍

·

Divwrsity is important in a collection so the Omega Speedmaster for two reasons 1. You don't own an Omega 2. You don't own a chronograph.

·

I say the speedy since you already have a Grand Seiko.

·

Speedy

·

Go for the Speedy 🌟🌟

·

Thanks for all your input. I will let everyone know what i choose.

·

I got the fois. I sold the birch, and now I'm thinking about this grand Seiko or the mistflake lol
