Looking at adding a GS

Hi All,

I have up to 11k AUD to spend on a watch. I currently have in my core collection:

  • Longines Spirit Titanium

  • Omega Speedmaster FOIS

Look at adding a GS in no particular order. If i were to only have one GS, or if you were to only have one GS, what would it be and why? What other GS should i consider at this price point? Or any other watches? i have considered the Santos Medium.

  • SBGY013

  • SBGY009

  • SBGE285

  • SBGJ273

  • SBGH273

  • SBGH271

009 is gorgeous, the 013 is beautiful too . Just gotta get rid of that bracelet and put an ostrich strap on it . U won’t go wrong with either my friend . How much are they charging you for it ? I hope u getting a discount . If u aren’t , dm me I’ll help u out with my personal discount . All the best

P.s. there is one thing to keep in mind when it comes to gs. Because of that zaratsu polishing the watches r absolutely beautiful but gentle. It’s super easy to get scratches on them and after that they look “meh”. From personal experience I recommend to go with either titanium models ( check out shunbun, snowflake etc) or go for more of a grained type of cases )

I don't think you'd ever get tired of that Omiwatari. You get a textured dial, a top-end manual-wind spring drive, a beautiful display back and GS' best bracelet. That's the route I'd take.

·

That red GS looks fantastic

·

I like the white non-GMT. Nice and simple. Reminds me of sand at the beach.

·

My personal favorites are SBGA497 or SBGA413. I feel like if I pull trigger on GS then I want the Spring Drive and personally would do the High-intensity titanium with a pink dial.

That no date blue dial is stunning, so are the others ... The first one also is quite interesting... I wish GS would offer more no date options ‼️

On a side note GS preloved like new is always better, you might be able to get 2 for 11k AUD 🤪

·

Can't tell immediately which model is which in the photos, but I'd go for the blue hi-beat.

·

If it were me, adding another GS to my collection, I’d lean towards something in the 62GS case. The 62GS, and the 44GS, are pure Grand Seiko. For movement, either a Spring Drive or a Hi-Beat. But don’t sleep on their quartz offerings. The 9F movement is a marvel.

No bad choices though, so don’t over think it. Let us know what you decide, and pics when you get it!

Lots of great choices, I am a GS fan. I favor the evo 9 series most. I like the thinner, and more comfortable, case design, the bigger (and bolder) hands and indices. They also have the latest GS movements. My bias is to spring drive. It's amazing tech and what GS is, justifiably, most known for. I would also consider a quartz movement.

·

Same, my picture doesn't do it justice, but it's stunning in person. The AD also gave a good discount.

I think spring drive is a must to get the full GS experience. My personal vote out of the ones you listed would be the SBGE285, but that’s probably because that is the next GS I plan to get.

But I am also a HUGE fan of the 44GS case. It just hits on another level for me. Design wise I think the SBGY009 is by far the most beautiful watch in your list. I have the SLGH009 which shares some similar design elements (dark blue dial, 44GS case, gold seconds hand, dial markers) and I adore that watch. If it were a spring drive I think it would be perfect.

Try #grandseiko Shunbun

·

I'd buy a Santos instead

First off I think all the GS models you have listed are great options. But to help you narrow it down, I think if you made some decisions first, that might make this easier:

  • Spring drive or high beat ( you seem to have both listed)

  • GMT or not

  • dial color preference

  • Specific movement preference (e.g. 9SA5, 9R65, etc....)?

  • Case type (44GS vs 62Gs)?

If you can make some decisions there first, I think it will help you narrow down you list of options. Just a suggestion. Good luck with your choice. Cheers.

·

One day I will get GS.

·

After seeing the stunning red dial, I ignored all other models.

·

Based on your collection the dressy ones seem to be a wonderful add - Omiwatari and the 44GS case

That said, I have a few Grand Seikos and the 62GS is definitely one of the best watch cases ever made. It’s unsung.

I love Grand Seiko, but unfortunately do not own one yet.

From your list I like the red GMT, and the light blue Hi-Beat.

Personally I have the blue Peacock GMT on my wish list.

Someday! 😉

·

They’re all gorgeous, but what purpose will the warch serve and what do you want from it? Stealth or pop? Dress, sport, or both? Ect

·

Seconding the blue high beat, that's a stunner. Unique shade and it gives me the feeling it's "raining" inside the case with that dial

I sure like my SBGN 027 and it would be well below your budget.

·

GS , great brand , you will be happy with any of the above

·

All of them are good watches to get, but my vote is to get the Spring Drive. The seconds hands is just mesmerizing!

SBGY007. That would be my suggestion too. Lovely dial, less thick. I have the Shunbun and adore it. but the faint pink isn't for everyone. Listen to your heart.

The Shunbun is my first Grand Seiko. Not likely to be my last, though! Great value for the price, imo.

·

I genuinely never know where to start with Grand Seiko. Every colour has an argument for adding it to my collection! Good luck choosing 😅

·

SBGH273 is always the correct answer

·

I’d add a Spring Drive to the list, and that white GMT looks pretty nice.

·

Maple Leaves all day/every day! (I might be a bit biased, but then again I currently own 8 Grand Seikos, and I would still probably pick the Yuka Momiji/SBGJ273/red one as the top of the group). Paired with a more casual strap, it is actually much more versatile than you would originally think, but the slightly smaller elegance case also allows it to be used as a dress watch more effectively than the sportier styled/sized cases: https://www.watchcrunch.com/leatherngold/posts/wruw-2024-04-06-7257c533-dhzx5t3b-375346

Also, if you haven't seen it in person under brighter lighting, the panels almost take on a holographic appearance that is impossible to capture in pictures.

·

I am literally drooling over that SBGH273. You have to get that one. It's not even close my friend, that is the watch
