Vintage Zodiac SeaWolf —- new movement?

Has anyone replaced the movement on a vintage SeaWolf with something new?

This is an old family piece. The movement runs, at least the seconds hand so if it’s wound or worn for a little bit. But the hour and minute hands will not advance normally or by hand with the crown pulled out.

99% that’s a loose pinion. Fixable, but can be a bit tricky.

As far as replacing the movement depends.

·

Have you brought it to a local watchmaker for an estimate? There seems to be at least one in your town, and estimates are typically free of charge (and in better places, done while you wait). This could just be gunked up parts, especially if service has not been done this millennium.

·

I'd have it looked at by a watchmaker familiar with vintage watches before replacing the movement.

Especially if it has sentimental value.

These watches are desirable in the collecting community in original condition-not so much with a modern movement.

·

I’ve been told locally that there wasn’t anything they could do, but I’m going to Bachendorf’s in Dallas this weekend to speak to someone about it.

·

There are some Vintage Zodiac specialists that can be researched by googling. Might be worth getting an estimate.

·

If the movement absolutely needs to be replaced I'd try to source the exact same one to try to keep the watch as original as possible.

That's awesome! A fellow Ryan who likes Zodiac, I'll take it!
