Confusion: which one to get? (HELP)

Hello folks! I have always struggled with choices and I have an option to buy either one of these next year and I’m utterly confused and would love to know your opinion.

I already own a Tudor BB58 in blue and looking to add either of these Rolexes to my collection next year as I’m getting engaged next year! (Yayy!)

My GF liked the explorer for its clean, sporty and versatile look and she believes the GMT is very similar to the BB58 that I have :)

I on the other hand like the GMT2 and the explorer almost equally but I’m utterly confused my self!

Would love to hear your opinion!

Form an aesthetic point of view it’s true that the GMT looks a little like the BB58 (bezel, size, etc.)

But if your BB is not the GMT one launched at Watches and Wonders this year I’d go with the GMT-Master II. Iconic watch, love the green hand for the GMT and GMT complication is really useful if you travel.

·

I'd go for the GMT. The explorer is a beauty but the GMT is a must add to any collection.

·

GMTs ftw!

Explorer.

The Explorer is my grail, but that GMT looks wonderful on you

·

Normally I would have said the GMT, because the Explorer is one of my least favorite Rolex watches, but honestly it looks great on your wrist and would pair nicely with the Tudor.

GMT for date and complication, Explorer on aesthetics and maybe “your wrist”.

·

Love my BLRO and wear it almost daily, but this reference was offered by my AD and it seemed sterile for the “cosmopolitan” Rolex professional line.

Actually prefer the new monochrome Black Bay reference over the Explorer.

I would get the Explorer simply because I have no need or desire for a GMT. Incredible watch, just not for me.

·

GMT all day. I own a gmt and bb58 and don’t think they look alike. But go with what works best for u.

·

Normally I would say GMT, but the Explorer looks fantastic on you! Would pair great with the bb58!

·

Explorer I is the kind of wristwatch you pass on to your grandchildren. Timeless.

·

I have the Explorer and love it - but the GMT looks better on you in those pics.

·

The chances of you getting the Explorer is higher than the GMT unless you have connections or buy it from the gray market. If I were offered both, I will buy them both.

·

Both look good my friend can't go wrong either way 👍

·

Wouldn’t this be indecision, not confusion?

If you find the GMT to be more useful, I’d say go for it

·

Both excellent choices. If I were offered the GMT, I'd take it simply because Explorers are easier to score and you can always add one to your collection down the line if you love both.

·

Explorer everyday of the week and twice on weekends

I am also confused. How do you know that you're getting engaged? If you've already agreed to it then that would mean you're getting married and are already engaged.

Anyway, I know that I would get the Explorer over the GMT as Rolex number 1. But I am not you 😅. Good thing is you have time to think it over. Perhaps try the jubilee bracelet. That would give the GMT a much different vibe to you BB 58.

It’s an Indian thing…engagement is like a ceremony and not a spontaneous, feel right and good thing (I wish it was)

That does make sense! Thank you!

I say go for the explorer! Personally if I was going to do the GMT I’d do a more vibrant colour for the bezel, like the Pepsi, or do two-tone or something. I think the black/grey combo, while nice, just doesn’t quite do the watch justice to me.

I tried on the Batman, and for some reason, it didn’t feel appealing to me. I was told explicitly that Pepsi would be a far fetch in a 1 year timeline

When in doubt, listen to the lady!

Hahaha! True

My main question would be do you travel internationally, track other timezones regularly, or (and I don't mean this in a bad way) just enjoy flexing? If so the GMT is the one to get.

I personally love how understated and legible the explorer is. The numerals help to instantly orientate you to time. Looks classy af on a leather strap tooly on NATO and just all around great on steel. It's what I would do and benefit from the extra $ to take the lady in your life out on a nice trip or some dinners. But only one of these I think could be a 1 watch collection and a compliment while the other I think is only a compliment.

I do travel a little for work and considering my home is another country!

Both are great choices. I travel a lot and love the GMT complication, so I would lean towards the GRNR. BUT, it is a very noticeable Rolex. If you need a more under the radar, timeless piece, good for work and leisure, the Explorer is fantastic..

True, I’m just worried if it looks a little too big on my wrist

Both look great, but if you like both equally, and she likes the Explorer, then get the Explorer. It’s for engagement (congratulations!) and it’ll be nice if you pick the one she gave the edge to.

Thank you! I agree!

I'd say the GMT, but then I'm a GMT lover. Tried it on recently, it's decent.

That looks brilliant doesn’t it?

·

GMT. Explorers usually go for less than retail so if you want to get one from the AD I'd go for the GMT. If not just buy the explorer second hand since it's better than playing games with the AD..

True, I’m just worried if it looks a little too big on my wrist

I have a relatively small wrist, so I'm very aware of watches looking too large. I see it instantly on myself, and spot it a mile away on others. I can tell you, in the wrist shot, it is not small, but it is perfectly passable. However, theres a lot at play with the camera distorting the image. In the full length shot, it looks perfect, and this is much closer to how folks will see it on you. So the GMT is definitely an option if you prefer it. The size is perfectly ok.

The explorer looks small in comparison. It will work great in every situation, and is such a classic, it's never going to be out of fashion.

If you really can't decide, let the Mrs-to-be choose for you. It'll halve the burden and double the meaning whenever you look at it.

·

First thought, the explorer will be more versatile just due to its size. (36mm right?) The gmt is more of a sports watch only feel in my mind.

It's a great one two punch if you could get both. If only one, explorer...

·

Is that GMT(GRNR) being offered to you?!?! Get it.

·

The Explorer is the ultimate GADA watch...but...the GMT has that extra something special...gets my vote...fits you well...IMO the Explorer looks a bit small

Congrats and Good Luck!
