Celebrating All Watches, Big and Small

I posted the Fossil pictured above as my WRUW today and thanks to the awesome community here, got a great reaction. I do understand some collectors sometimes look this brand down. But thankfully, not here.

But yesterday, I was doom-scrolling Instagram for some watch-related videos, I came across someone who seems to have started a collection of watches. He had some fashion brand watches and some of them were relatively cheap. I was happy to see his enthusiasm for sharing his collection. But as with every social media platform, the comments section is a version of hell. There they were ridiculing his collection, calling it 'not real' and saying stuff like 'you haven't started yet' etc.

These social platforms alienate new collectors and break their confidence to the extent that they feel ashamed to wear what they have in their collection.

We need to do better. Don't we?

I do agree. Some people usually criticize others trying to compensate for their own insecurities.

I’m not sure I can do better than the residents of Instagram at criticising others. They are true masters of the art. I just can’t generate the levels of spite and vitriol required to compete.

Your money, your wrist. You want a collection of fashion watches, go for it! People often cross the line between giving practical advice on watches' quality and ridiculing people's choices.
