A week with my Casio Duro MDV 106 Marlin

It has been over a week since I have had my Casio Duro on my wrist. A glorious week indeed! I love this watch so much that it has mostly stayed on my wrist for the time I have owned it. It’s not just a watch; it’s a testament to how accessibility and style can coexist beautifully.

From the moment I strapped it to my wrist, I felt the connection. The watch has a design that resonates with me – straightforward, unpretentious, yet undeniably sophisticated. It mirrors the aesthetic of much more expensive dive watches, yet remains within reach for most watch lovers, which in itself is remarkable.

The Duro’s sleek black dial, accented with a date window at 3 o’clock, is a perfect example of design done right. The luminous markers and hands stand out just enough to ensure readability in low light, yet they don’t overpower the understated charm of the watch face. Each glance at the dial reminds me why I was drawn to this timepiece in the first place –  the balance and proportion.

What truly elevates the Duro is its build quality for the price. The stainless steel case, paired with a resin band which I swapped out for a stainless steel bracelet (for aesthetics), feels robust and reliable. The case size is substantial yet not overwhelming, fitting comfortably on my wrist and making a subtle yet strong statement. The unidirectional bezel, an essential feature for any dive watch, clicks with satisfying precision, further underscoring the thoughtful craftsmanship behind this piece.

Over the past week, this watch has seamlessly adapted to every scenario – from casual outings to more formal settings. Its versatility is one of its strongest attributes. Despite its simplicity, it carries an air of sophistication that allows it to complement a wide range of outfits and occasions. Whether I’m in the office, on a date with my wife, or simply enjoying a quiet moment by myself, the Duro feels like the perfect companion.

Another aspect worth highlighting is the watch’s impressive water resistance. Rated at 200 meters, it offers peace of mind for any aquatic adventures or accidental splashes. While I haven’t taken it diving yet, knowing it can handle such activities adds to its appeal as a true dive watch.

As I mentioned, what makes the Duro even special is its accessibility. It opens the door for many watch enthusiasts to experience the joy of owning a stylish, reliable dive watch without the hefty price tag. It’s a reminder that elegance doesn’t have to be exclusive or expensive; sometimes, the most beautiful things are those that are within our reach and crafted with care.

This past week with it has not only reinforced my appreciation for well-crafted timepieces but also deepened my affection for this particular watch. It’s a piece that I’ll continue to wear with love. It has earned a permanent place on my wrist and in my heart.

I totally agree about the Duro! I wear mine on a black rubber strap, it is my daily driver for work. I always catch myself looking at it on my wrist and smiling as the watch looks expensive and it has a great wrist presence.

I love it, I have the blue. To give a bit of balance (for me) it's a tad big, date window small and unreadable (with my eyes) the strap is terrible. I swapped the glass for sapphire which improved it no end and new strap. Having said my negatives, if I lost mine or damaged badly I would immediately buy another.

It is hard to not love the Duro. Agree on the strap, I love it more on the bracelet. Also, will look forward to changing to Sapphire in future, availability is a little scarce at the time in my area.

They are absolutely cracking watches 👌🏻

Just waiting for Casio to do the right thing and release at 40-42mm version. I would even take reduced water resistance as a trade off (100M)

I feel the same way. I love it for it’s simplicity and for it’s beauty. I put it on a Long Island Bracelet designed for the Duro and it’s another level of comfort.
