Review: Incredible Design, Quality, and Value from Martin Design
Just recieved the "Supernatural" watch from Martin Design Watches (https://www.martindesignwatches.com/) after backing it on Kickstarter some months ago. Though I got mine at a discount, you can order these from the website for about $400 (USD).
I got mine in the "Caturix" colorway, which comes with a textured silver dial, faux heat-blued hand set, and stainless steel case. The watch is a regulator style watch, thus it has seperate hour, minute, and seconds subdials. This is accomplished by adding a custom module on top of a Miyota 82S7.
For the price point, the finishing is incredible. Thought has clearly been put into each aspect of the watches design. The textured dial is really well executed and contrasts well with the high polish on the outside of each subdial. The minutes hand (the longest of the three) extends nearly all the to the end of the dial nearly touching the small chapter ring around the outside of the dial.
Though the watch came with two leather straps (I opted for the black and light blue of the six options offered directly from Martin Design), this after-market dark blue seems to suit the watch better. The only other negative remark I might have, which is personal preference, is I wish there was a slightly more interesting rotor chosen. As is, each watch comes with a painted blue skelotonized rotor with no branding whatsoever. In future, it would be cool to see this element elevated to match the thought that has gone into every other aspect of this watch, though for the price point this really is a minor nitpick.
I have to say, this is a great watch and based on first impressions I highly recommend checking this brand out. There are several very interesting colorways offered on the website.
Review: Incredible Design, Quality, and Value from Martin Design
- Very well executed dial textures
- Unique regulator complication
- Great value
- Uses a reliable movement
- Could come with nicer straps
- Slightly odd rotor choice
Late to this post, but just learned of Martin Design (while googling Kieser Design) and these pieces have somehow seemingly flown under the radar.
I am very happy to see that the finishing you're reporting is on par with what seemed to come through the stock website pictures and YouTube reviews. This thing looks absolutely stunning.
A couple of questions though...
Do the dimensions seem to align with what was advertised? And how does it wear? The dimensions seem to be on the large end of what my 6.5" wrist can handle in a dress watch, is there curvature to the lugs? Does it wear sleek or chunky?
Have you noticed any quirks or had any issues with the Miyota 82s7? I'll be honest in that I know almost nothing about this movement series from Miyota, and curious if it performs well, especially given the customization to turn it in to a regulator.
How is the strap hardware? Did you transfer it to the aftermarket strap, and is it signed and does it match the case polishing?
More pictures on wrist would be awesome too if you have them, can't seem to find very many. Just curious for your thoughts having owned it for a while. Really appreciate the great write up!

Just commenting to say I still love the watch and definitely recommend it! I will respond to your questions tomorrow, hopefully :)
