Dirty tarmac
These textured dials remind me of a dirty tarmac, I can't help it. Is it done on purpose, to create an intense contrast to the luxury image of those watches?

Guess so, but I've always thought that too- dirty tarmac is the perfect description. More at home on a field watch than something expensive imho. 👍🏼

This Calatrava reference was created by a member of the Stern family if I remember correctly. He said the tremblage dial was inspired by the old cameras that had the same texture.
Something between tarmac and sandpaper. On the blue dial Polaris the texture looks much nicer, less tarmac vibes 😂

I love the Blue Polaris.
Not convinced by either the Patek or the JLC Polaris despite loving field watches and loving both brands.
Correction: love JLC; Patek 10 years ago was ace, not so much nowadays.
They don't look the same in person as giant macros with detail you'd never see IRL.
