Torn between these two dials

Which one do you like the most?

You know I was thinking about getting the Arabic numerals one (for tooly legibility) but seeing them side by side….. the stick dial looks nicer

Flip the bracelets and have both! They are both very nice, can’t go wrong with either. The 556A has a matte dial and flieger appeal while the 556I is glossy and leans towards dress sport. I would get the “I” on fine link to leave room for 856/857.

Other than the numerals, there are 2 differences: the date window is in different positions and the Arabic numerals is matte while the other one is more shiny

Great point on the bracelet! I'm afraid the 856 won't work for my tiny wrist though

Re: the actual question - not sure, both of them are lovely in their own way!

Correct. I fell in love with the A after seeing and trying both on in person, despite preferring the "i" before heading to my AD. Something about the matte dial and how it helps the amazingly good anti-reflective crystal coatings erase virtually all glare and reflections is just magical, and I love how it changes from a nearly medium grey to a charcoal, nearly black, grey depending on lighting. I also am not a fan of 3 o'clock date windows and find the 4:30 (which admittedly many people dislike) works better or me. So for me, for exactly the two differences you pointed out, I prefer and purchased the A (with RS).

One other thing that might not be apparent at first but once you see it you see it: some complain that the handset on the 556 family is too short, particularly the hour hand, and I can see their point. But for me, the relatively large 3, 6, 9, and 12 numerals take up some of the negative space on the dial and reduce the noticeability of the short hour hand. For me, this is an added bonus that I did not consciously note before owning my A RS.

Thanks for this! Which bracelet did you go for?

Trick question: I didn't. I bought it on the Sinn black leather strap with red accent stitching. A couple of months ago I picked up a Haveston Radiol-B, which is a 1-pass, 1-piece nylon strap, and I've been wearing it on that since. It's super comfortable, and the hardware is a decent match for the satinized finish on the 556 case.
