Today is my 355th post, just ten short of the 365 badge. As a watch addict, I’d planned to celebrate reaching this goal with a new watch. However, the zero-watch challenge has changed my plans. Instead, I’ll celebrate—hopefully with a fantastic watch—at the end of it.

Damn, it’s a long wait though…😅but entirely worth it!

Day 43/365 #0wc #lessismore

Oh twice as much ain't twice as good

And can't sustain like one half could

It's wanting more

That's gonna send me to my knees

It will all be worth it in the end, right? Right? Cool shot, Trevor! Loving the F91! 🎯

Beautiful post. I've been trying very hard to refocus my mind, to channel it towards appreciating what I have instead of what i want to have, or regrets from the past... I guess that's called mindfulness and living in the moment

Your casio is a gorgeous snowdrop and I love it

Thanks, Valera. That’s awesome to hear—that’s the real-life journey right there.

If I would be setting a side 100-200 euros each month for a “hobby” while I can’t spend it on the hobby, then at the end of 1 year I could buy a 1,200-2,400 euro watch (or two for that amount). I think it’s a good deal at the end. 😊Aaaand the resistance to temptation will make you stronger than most of us … and not only in watch collecting. 💪Trevor, keep it up.. I am rooting for you. 🤘🤩

Keeping an open mind and not being fixed or wedded to buying more expensive items is the challenge. As we all know, there are rarely watches that offer truly great value—other than Casios. So, the real value in buying a watch is an emotional one and that’s hard to quantify.

Great photography - perfect balance of light and shadow and angles are done correctly

·

Classic watch!

I like when I see a picture and… that’s Trevor’s!!!

What a beautiful black and white!! I like how you saturated a bit the watch making it shine!! It pops up out of the screen.😍😍😍

We’ll wait till the end!!!💪🏻

Classic watch!

Thanks, Tuan!

The wait will be worth it, double achievement, 365 and 0wc. 😁

·

Stick with it, Trevor! Do Straps violate the spirit of the. Challenge? If not, you may find yourself the owner of several bespoke editions by the end of this year!

·

Fabulous shot Trevor. You have more willpower than I do my friend. But think of how happy you will be when you get that new piece after the challenge. 😃

·

I noticed a few days ago that you didn't have long to go for the 365 goal. I'm liking this image and I think it's worthy of the #lessismore tag

·

Your sign to make more memories with your current watches, Trev 😉

·

Beautiful shot of the F-91W, Trevor 😍💯

Hang in there, you have almost done 365 and I'm sure 0wc will give you clarity on this crazy hobby 👍

Day 43 and feeling great! Can’t wait to celebrate the milestone with a great watch to end the year. Cheers!

All the way, Logan! 💪💯

Great shot Trevor! For those who get as much pleasure from wearing a Casio as they do with a higher end, more expensive watch they have already achieved the goal of the challenge! I think we both appreciate that feeling.

The rest of our struggle is for taming the addiction. And not necessarily The Watch addiction. As every addiction comes from something that’s missing internally, from the soul, taming it is a Herculean task. Is it going to be successful or not? We’ll see at the end of the tunnel - if we manage to get there 💪🏻😅

I totally agree with the high and low side of watches. Achieving that mindset is a valuable one!

It's a puzzling one on addictions, but the most compelling reason that I've read is one perhaps related to evolution and surivival eg hoarding. Perhaps obsessions also helped people to further and advance our knowledge along the way.

Trevor, if I may… what’s the one you want to get to celebrate?

This more or less revolves around a Grand Seiko piece. I like their ethos and design principles the best. A 34mm piece based on a modern reinterpretation of their first ever one. There are two versions I like. Very simple pieces https://grandseikogs9club.com/chronicle-9/sbgx347-sbgx349-gekka-9f61-quartz/

Fantastic shot Trevor! #0wc is also going smoothly for me too. Still, sometimes, some very affordable watches (like your beautiful Casio) gives me a hard time more than others 🫠

I know what you mean... the affordable, impulsive ones are maybe the toughest. The thought of getting roasted by that purchase is enough to say no 🤣

·

Good to see you back buddy, missed your beautiful photos. Truly. I have to ask, do you still take photos of your watches even though you are no posting them? Hope you’re doing well buddy 👊🏻

I do—some I like, and some I don’t. It all depends on how much time I can invest, which determines whether I post or not.

Cheers, Rusty! 🙏

Hmm interesting, the idea about evolution and survival particularly. I can't really make the connection between collecting watches and surviving. If someone puts his/her survival at stake due to collecting watches that is clearly called addiction. I can get the evolution concept as many of us have progressed as watch collectors (not sure if that journey has changed us as human beings though - I like to believe it has but that can't be justified easily). We progressively become more refined in selecting watches through our journey.

I've read and heard so many different attempts from people to explain what is this hobby about. Collecting, hoarding, obsessively accumulating, consuming (consumerism), investing, (that one's just hilarious), flexing. They might be all correct or all totally wrong but that's so subjective.

For example in my case I never dreamed of a grail. I never ever longed to own a specific high end model. Not at least that much to forget any other watch that I liked. My driving force was always finding unique and difficult to obtain watches, always within a certain price range and that is because I strongly believe that no watch should cost more than the average worker's salary. Therefore, the main reason I am in #0wc is for taming my addiction for obtaining every jdm or other difficult to find watch out there. To slow down the endless hunting mentality for the next secret jdm Casio or Seiko. I am not planning on buying a "Grail" or a luxury watch. I'll just lay back and enjoy the important things in my life. I already do it but the watch collecting bug is too distracting sometimes and makes me neglect my family.

They’re simple, Trevor, yes. But beautiful nonetheless! Gorgeous, actually. Simplicity is harder to execute sometimes.

Haha, I know you're joking about the survival part in watch collecting - but broadly speaking, it allowed folks to store in readiness for a crisis. I think it’s human nature, as we saw a ton of that behaviour during COVID times with toilet paper 😜. With watches, I imagine we somehow trigger that part of our brain which is always there, and we trick ourselves into thinking that's what we need. Dopamine hits only reinforce that behaviour.

Love the honesty here, Kostas. I agree on the family first and only yourself can know when you’re crossing the line, be it finances or time.
