Is this Rolex over polished?

Rolex experts, is this example considered over polished?

Oh no what happened? DIY project? It looks like overpolish to me.

Is it the lug shape or the general finishing that looks overpolished? This is my first Rolex I bought in Japan last year and I really had no idea what to look out for

It’s hard to say based on the pics. It looks like a bad polishing job. The Chamfers look decently sharp and your bezel doesn’t have fading, which happens when it’s polished. I would take it to get polished by someone who’s reputable and it should be good to go!

·

The lugs have been over polished, but I've seen far worse. It is still a great watch

·

The polished edge of the brushed bezel looks soft to me.

·

I wouldn't buy this one personally but I have seen these in worse condition while looking to buy one for myself.

The good news is that this can be "saved" if it bothers you. In Europe Pendulum Laboratorio in Italy does a good job of that based on FB and Instagram pictures. I hear LA Watchworks can do similar stuff over in the US but I have not checked their work.

This is the example I bought. I believe it is the product of a fairly competent restoration or "unpolished" (but I doubt that not least because of what I paid). As you can see, the lugs are a quite flat and the bezel is probably a bit better too. I can post better images if you care to see what yours might look after a good refurb job.

Can’t tell if it’s the angle but one of the lower lugs appear narrower than the other and can’t tell if it’s rebrushed or a lot of scratches.

From the angle of the picture taken it also seems like the polishing is slightly inconsistent on the outer case next to the lugs? Looks like it was scratched pretty deep near there at one point.

Since you bought it already, just enjoy the watch as much as you can. Nothing else you can do atm 🍻

Bad polishing job, but easy to correct by a decent specialist.

·

Thanks for the input everyone. Going to reach out to a specialist.

I def see it now. the right lower lug is definitely slimmer than the left one...Is this even fixable

Yes, it is.

And so is the bezel.

That is some witchcraft!

it sure looks like it. It think the bezels are re-engraved with lasers, then add black paint and lugs, pretty much no matter how messed up can be lapped into shape after laser welding some steel back on.

It's the great thing about those cases. Most shops that do this sort of work get a lot of (neo) vintage Rolex in so they will know the shapes and had plenty of practice. There's very little they can't fix.

What you need is a good restoration shop. I'd probably send it in before service is due. You'll get back a brand new watch.
