Dive watch with tuxedo?

I'm a groomsman in an upcoming wedding and will be wearing a blue tuxedo. My Squale pictures above fits the wedding colors perfectly.

What is the community's thoughts on wearing a dive watch with a tuxedo?

If you're a stickler for details, no.

But most people don't care.

People nowadays wear an Apple Watch with a tuxedo. Do whatever you like, I think it’s fine

·

It won't fit in your sleeve and you're not James Bond.

Also, it's not the 1950's anymore and I see people on their graduation exams in suits with trainers on.

So it really depends whether you want the tried and tested look (also "correct", according to tradition), or if you want to experiment - and any visual offence is on you. (I should know, I'm something of a trailblazer myself, with no assured followers who would use the blazed trail.)

I have on numerous times rocked a subby with the oyster bracelet in wedding parties, suits and every possible formal fit you can imagine 😎

If you want to dress it down to can throw a leather strap on that blue beauty. I know some watch fashion police may look sideways 😂 at a dive watch with leather straps 👀 But it's an option.

Stay Fresh My Man 🍻👊🏽

Tradition in pretty much all forms is slowly going in the bin. It’s sad to see.

·

Only if you look like Sean Connery in the 70's

·

Yep 👍🏼

I’m in @CheapHangover ‘s camp…You don’t wear a dive watch with a tux. You can and may do so of course, but the (my) thing is: either you draw a line somewhere OR: anything goes. Swimming trunks and brogues to work, pyjamas to a wedding. Which is fine if you choose to do so, but if you do draw a line somewhere, then at least make an effort. So match your belt, shoes and watch strap, wear a nice dress watch under the cuff of the shirt you’re wearing with your tux…

Nobody outside a watch community will care or notice.

·

Okay, most people don't care, but if you're asking the question then something is already bothering you. Go with your gut and do what YOU think feels right.

Personally, I think dress watches should be the go to for this scenario. Why? You can wear a dive watch at literally any other time from t-shirt and jeans to business casual to day to day at work as they are by default much more versatile. The same isn't true for many dress watches.

If you don't already have a dress watch? Well, here is permission from some random person to go and buy another watch haha.

·

Depends on the watch, but yes

·

Dress watches are the Devil. Dive watches are cool.

This.

I'm all for the wear what you want.

I mean, if you want to wear trainers (aka sneakers in USA), with a tux, then, yeah you can. I don't think you should, but you can. Ditto with jeans. Heck, go the whole hog and wear a hoodie on top top.

This "do what you want" thing ain't working out so well now? Sp, back to the watch. Now I haven't read the rest of the comments, maybe someone has mentioned James Bond by now. I think, if you only have a dive watch then wear it! But if you do have a dress watch, at least consider it.

Now I'll read the rest of the comments. Let's see if I was right about Jane's bond!

Outrageous!

I wouldn’t mind except some of these new ‘traditions’ are quite concerning to say the least. 😅

Which is almost entirely dependent on your point of view. ;)

Got the Waterboy movie vibes

Zero idea what you are talking about…..

·

Why not? Unless the bride or groom says no, go for it.

·

Swap out the straps withs some leather ones. Color should match your shoes and belt.

·

Nobody cares, wear what you want

·

You can definitely pull a dive watch with a suit Sean Connery as james bond pulled the submariner with a suit but in my preference i would say that it should be a more subtle and less aggressive diver to have that more dressier look while still being a diver for example with omega seamaster i would not wear the 300 with a suit but the aquaterre i would but that's just my preference

·

I've done it. Some people can pull it off, others can't.

·

First, we get it, most people won't care. Wear what you like. Blah blah blah. We have that point covered by now.

Second, James Bond wore a Sub because he was a trained assassin and former special forces soldier on assignment. Also, he was fictional. If you wear one because Bond wore one, that is fine. But if you do, don't laugh at the guy dressed up as Commander Data from Star Trek. Cmdr Data was an much more honorable person than James Bond.

Third, watches aren't tools anymore, you wear them as a fashion statement, especially at a wedding. So in a sense, you are asking the wrong group of people. Most people in this group have a dive watch fetish.

I think if you are going through the effort of dressing up in a tux, then really get dressed up. I mean if he really is a friend, he wouldn't care if you wore a T-shirt and sneakers. And if you are a friend, you will honor his and his spouse's dress code and dress accordingly - which mean a dressy watch. Leather strap, no timing bezel, doesn't glow at night, fits under a cuff...

·

Ask Mr. BOND.

·

It’s a yes from me - but some dive watches do it a lot better than others

·

Your choice, your watch will look 💯 fine, and probably no one will notice.

Personally, I would opt for a more monochrome diver, or one that looks in tip top condition. Why? Because it's a wedding, you're in a tux, and so I would choose one my smartest looking pieces. Just as I would choose my smartest looking shoes. For me, that would mean a dressy watch and Prada shoes. But I wouldn't wear my beater, whatever brand or style it was. So for me, a good condition Orient bambino would win for this occasion over a dinged up sub. Also, if you do own dressier watches (you don't say), surely this is the kind of occasion to let them see the light of day?

As for blue tuxes - nothing wrong with that! I own two vintage blue velvet tuxes with black collars and trimmings. There were a lot of them made 50 or 60 years ago, also known as smoking jackets. Made to be worn with bow ties for evening wear. I'm sure your blue tux will be fab 😊

My bad. I made a reference to an Adam Sandler movie from 1998 called "The Waterboy". This is the synopsis on the Rotten Tomatoes webpage:

Image

In the movie, Kathy Bates always referred to everything that she didn't like as "The devil". I've been a football fan my whole life, and I was 14 at the time, I did find it fun to watch, I'm not suggesting that you should watch it though, I did enjoy it back in the day, but it is one of those Adam Sandler movies after all.

Not a huge Adam Sandler fan but that makes sense!

There is one way I know about Adam Sandler. The nostalgia critic reviews his movies and that’s pretty much scared me away. 🎃. https://youtu.be/ZEjbUp6s4bI?si=WojjGVHixduLyEVl
