I have been using a lot of old Russian watch dials for building watches, as they are cheap to source - and there's an abundance of them on the Internet.
This lead me to look into the fascinating history of Russian watchmaking, the space race influences and so on.
Not a big fan of what Russia is doing these days, but did not want that to stop me having one of these Vostok's.
It's by no means a great watch. Even the English instructions were honest about its flaws, but I feel like it's gonna be in my collection for some time to come.

Nice 'dirskie! Those carved lugs and bezel have a really cool look.
I just ordered a couple amphibias, myself. I try not to be mad at a country's people for the actions of a government that they may well not support. I did a fair amount of international travel during a time when the US government was not well liked abroad, and I was always grateful for those folks who said "we hate American politicians but we love American people". So I try to pass on that understanding. Especially when watches are involved!
