In creating the “Fugu” Dive Automatic, Citizen pays homage to its namesake, the Pufferfish (Fugu = Pufferfish in Japanese). From the round shape and the serrated grooves of the bezel edge reminiscent of an inflated pufferfish with spines erect to the textured dial’s unique pattern duplicating the male pufferfishs’ sand nests, Citizen pays homage to this curious and rugged fish.
More specifically, the white-spotted pufferfish (Torquigener albonaculosus) is known for its complex courtship display, which includes the male pufferfish creating large, geometric circles in the sand to attract females for mating. A female will inspect the nest and if deemed suitable, will mate with the male and lay its eggs in the middle of the nest. The textured dial’s pattern pays homage to the male pufferfishs’ sand nests.

Most definitely; always a fun time whenever I came across similar species of pufferfish when diving.
