Sinn 556i - devil on my shoulder says "this could be perfect as a daily, boy". Thoughts?

I'm in watch rehab, so not allowed to buy anything, but still adding watches to my short list.

Does anyone have experience with the 556i Sinn? I'm considering this, or Longines Spirit 37mm as possible future options, when I'm released on probation from watch prison (where only the Casio W59 is allowed).

I used to own the Mark XVI IWC and have had Hamilton, omega etc. A little tired of spending crazy money. So ideally I'd like a watch under £2000 at some stage.

Also has anyone heard that Sinn clasps are changing and they've introduced micro adjust? @IDKline mentioned that to me.

Thanks all

No expensive with this watch but I have always liked the 556z definitely looks like it could fit the bill for a do it all daily watch

If those are the two you're considering it really comes down to which vibe you want. Sinn is bigger and much more toolish, the Longines has more of a Datejust elegance to it. Both beautiful watches in their own way.

·

I had the Sinn 556 R/S A. I sold it after a while. It was close to being a keeper, but just not there. The dimensions are as close to perfect as you could want. The black, inky dial is pretty nice.

·

Anbosuktly the SINN 😍

·

Sinns my next watch

·

I don't have personal experience with the Sinn 556i, but I want to. Ooooohhhh how I want to. 😎👍😜 And I don't care about the quick-adjust...cause I really want it on a black sailcloth strap.

·

Sinn 556 is quite nice but at a lower tier than the IWC that you had before. So keep that in mind.

Clasp on the 556 hasn’t been updated yet I don’t believe. Looks like they’re putting that into other models first. Way more details at the WUS thread here: https://www.watchuseek.com/threads/new-tool-free-adjustable-clasp.5548556/page-11?post_id=57938280#post-57938280

I have a 556i RS and it gets a lot of wrist time!!! I purchased mine from watchbuys on the h-link bracelet (old clasp) but wear it on a nato or MN strap most of the time. Perfect dimensions & wears really well. Lume is not the brightest but other than that I have no complaints.

I have a Sinn 556i RS and love it to bits, it's my favourite in my small collection

I own the Sinn 556A and absolutely love it. I consider it a GADA, and it gets a lot of wrist time for me. The bracelet is great and I have no issues with the old clasp. When the new clasp comes out for the 556 I will probably not get it.

·

Sinn is a nice watch but all German watches I’ve owned so far have been far too austere after a few weeks of ownership. I need a bit more pop and visual interest for my daily wear watches.

·

Agree. The Sinn is beautiful and distinctive, but not that visually interesting.

·

I have owned and always had a soft spot for the 556. It could easily be your only watch. Even my non watch friends thought it was great.

·

Two fantastic choices imo. Two ‘pilot’ watches that approach the genre from entirely different runways. I’ve tried on the Sinn and it feels like a more solidly built watch - definitely more sporty too. That isn’t to say the Longines isn’t well built btw.

The Spirit (in that dial) is for the pilots before/after a flight. In a lounge. In Business Class.

Good luck with the choice

Hamilton pioneer is so underrated

Own a Spirit 37mm and Omega AT and both are great dailies, but the AT is the ultimate daily IMO

With that said, the 556 is a solid choice for a daily, just less able to dress up.

Tough choices! I'm leaning to the Longines, just to experience something a little different from my usual plain pilot and field watches. .it seems to be more dynamic, more interesting. Need to try one on

That's a coincedence, I'm a Scot from Dumfries and Galloway, but used to live in Downend in Bristol many years ago. Small world!

How cool! Yeah we were in Clifton, Filton, Hengrove, then moved to Somerset (Wrington) and then girlfriend wanted to come home, so Scotland it was....

That sounds really good. I was hoping to have it on the bracelet, like a Datejust silver, but maybe black dial would be better then.... I'll need to try both on really

You MUST try them on first. My view is just my view, you might love it on the bracelet. The strap dresses it up, the bracelet is more sporty (whatever that means for a watch).

P.s. hello from Scottish Borders

P.s. hello from East Lothian

Thank you so much. Yes, I'll definitely try them on... at some point this or next year for sure. A man can only live so long with just a Casio. I'll need to have a nice watch again at some stage! I love East Lothian! Yellow Craig, Tyninghame.. beautiful

Recognise those place names, It's been 24 years since I moved back to Scotland. Miss the weather down there. But don't miss the M25 run into London.

Bristol is different now. Very busy, very expensive to live.... just a bit depressing and intense to be honest. Not a great place to have a family

·

That's a pity, I remember it as a great place to live when my oldest daughter was very young and the locals were very friendly.

Yeah they're both great options that won't break the bank

·

I have the Longines Spirit 37mm in champagne and it is truly a beautiful watch, perfect everyday wear and can’t recommend enough. I’m considering getting the Sinn 556i next as well haha so we are in the same boat

Love this! Yes those two are some of the best watches in the £1000-2000 range... I'm considering the black dial Spirit 37, as it'll be very versatile, especially if it'll be my only watch. But there is something Datejust like in the champagne and maybe.... just maybe I could go left field and get that instead
