Oris. Is it worth it?

Hi all. A local watch pal is lending me his Oris 37mm to try out for a few days. He's asking £550 for it (around $650). I think it's about 10-12 years old?

It's a little plain and "boring" but has it's charm in the simplicity.

Does anyone have one of these, or any plain "gada" Oris watches.

Are they any good?

Would you go for it?

I'm saving for a Longines spirit 37mm or something similar, but this could be fun to wear for a year or so?

Anyway. After some opinions.

Thanks all.

P.s. the movement is an ETA base I believe

They are a nice piece, but for $650 that’s a larger portion of the price of the Longines.

Maybe grab a Seiko 5 for $100 and enjoy for a year and you haven’t really set yourself back proportionately speaking.

Thank you very much. That's a kick ass comment and you're right

Oris make some interesting pieces, I'm a fan of their big pointer range, to me this one is a quite plain dial which is covered by a lot of other brands

Agreed... I'm thinking this is a NO.. instead, save up, or even go for Sinn 556i

I have a similar Oris and a 37mm spirit. Both nice but $650 is pretty steep for a used GADA Oris that isn’t a super desirable model. Save up for the Longines. With discounts $650 is a 3rd of the way there.

Yes. Let me work it🎶

Thank you so much. That makes total sense.

This Oris is a definition of a GADA

Old used watch with no warranty that probably didn’t cost much new MSRP, let alone discounted? Yeah you can counter back with $50. Unless it’s a piece you specifically want (which it doesn’t sound like it is) you should also start looking for a new friend.

So many great options to purchase new for under $500.

Don’t buy anything until you score the Longines you REALLY want. Seriously.

Wise man! Get that Longines that you love. You’ll be dancing on the moon if you do.

·

Oris prices itself like is on the level with Longines. Very much is not.

CW quality for more than twice the price. Hard, hard pass.

If you like it, why not! I personally love Oris and their diverse collection!
