Say Hello To The Most Accurate Watch In The World

Grab a seat, you’re not ready for this - allow me to introduce you to the Citizen Caliber 0100. This is the world’s most accurate standalone self contained watch! Those last few words are important because this watch doesn’t rely on atomic radio-controlled or satellite synchronized time setting. No. This quartz tour de force does it all internally on its own, managing to lose/gain just 1 second PER YEAR!

We all know that quartz is accurate with most managing roughly 10-15 seconds per month, and some super quartz pieces that can manage around 10 seconds per year, but this is on a whole new level of accuracy. How? Well to give you an idea, a standard quartz crystal operates at 32,768 Hz. The Citizen Caliber 0100 operates at 8,400,000 Hz! That delta is 256.3 times greater 🤯

This is Citizen flexing its know-how muscles, and is pairing some incredible tech behind their already well known Eco-Drive light powered technology. I’ve been a fan of the brand since 1999 and it’s also the first watch brand I bought with my own savings as a kid. This specific piece is limited to 500 pieces, is made out of grade 5 titanium and when it launched went for $7,400!

Thanks for taking the time to nerd out with me a bit, I'm just blown away by how simple and how clean and accurate a timepiece can be! A massive thanks @ghariyaan for loaning it to me 🤗

I have a Longines VHP that's rated at 5 seconds per annum. This Citizen is something else. Always had respect for the brand, this just reinforces that.

·

Oh didn’t u have that on wrist at the meet up/eat up? Clean watch & nice 7 link engineer bracelet. Very low key 🔥

PS. Great podcast today.

·

8,388,608Hz (8.4MHz) to be precise, or exactly 256 (2^8) times the frequency of regular 32KHz watches. The Citizen has a clock frequency slightly higher than my Atari ST back in the late 80s. 🙂 Amazing piece.

5 seconds per year is also crazy good! But yes, this Citizen is just on another level of accuracy 🤝

I did indeed! That's when @ghariyaan loaned it out to me 😉 I think he saw the way my eyes got mega wide when he started to talk to me about it haha!

And thank you for listening 🙏

I'm a big fan of #HAQ movements. The Longines is such a lovely quality watch and so accurate, but I like the Citizen very much.

When I first got into watches (when I was 15) I was a bit obsessed with accuracy. I figured "it's a watch, accuracy is everything." The logic being, given that the main purpose of a watch is to tell the time, you want it as accurate as possible 😀

I've stepped away a bit from the accuracy craze but still very much appreciate it and am in awe of some of the crazy things brands can do nowadays! I need to check out that Longines VHP you mentioned!

I bought it because of the deal, but even though I knew the accuracy I didn't appreciate how it hits every single marker perfectly all around the dial, and how clean a design it is. Also, the bracelet meets the case perfectly and it's really well made. A very under-rated watch.

Their VHP GMTs are so cool

OK, now be nice and invite it in for a drink or something 😜

You saying my non-GMT isn't cool? Just kidding, and if the GMT version had been in the AD when I was there I'd probably have got that instead.

That 0100 is something!

As always, Citizen is the master of solar powered watches, their dials hude the cell perfectly.

The highest ranked in my goals list is The Citizen, but that caseback and movement I can't unsee. So beautiful 😍

Nailed it, well said 🤝 this and The Citizen would be a dream to add to the collection!

I'd love to see one in the flesh so to speak a citizen for over a grand wow the photos are great but for some reason titanium doesn't feel to good on my wrist maybe because of its weight but its certainly a beautiful clean and crisp watch .

Titanium isn't for everyone, a lot of people think if feels inexpensive, likely because the lack of weight doesn't inspire confidence. But for those of us that appreciate the lightness and the tech, it's fantastic! The bracelet is indeed original to the watch 👍

·

Amazing specs. I love the looks too, showing off proudly the quartz movement with the exhibition case, and the fact that it is a time only watch.

Exactly this! Clean, confident, and super impressive with the specs 🤝

Holy Jesus Christ, the Chronomaster series, that, oh my god, is the bucket list of every Citz fanboys

Well said! Yup, they're quite something 👌

·
Donster_125

And where does Credor land in this stack rank? 😉

Credor on another planet. Would love to add a Credor at some point

·

It’s a very beautiful watch. I like also the open case back. Just handsome a what great technology

·
Kayone73

Actually the capacitor probably needs to be changed after 10-15 yrs

You might be right although I would hope it lasts a bit longer than 10y.

We need to see this on wrist

I tried to snap a few but I didn't want to remove any of the links - I was very precious and careful with the watch, it was loaned to me so I didn't want to accidentally scratch it - I'm sure @ghariyaan will have some nice wrist shots of it though as it's fitted for him 👍
