I was surrounded by watches all my life, but really only got into them at 17/18 when I finished my apprenticeship as a Mechatronics Technician. At that time, a friend and I wanted to buy a Rolex to commemorate this event, but we were unable to afford a Rolex at all. We looked at what money we had, which was around 3k€ and the only thing we were able to get at this point was 16610, but we didn't want an "old" watch. The same watch is now 10k€ around here.... If only we had known....
He ended up buying a car and I got myself a Seiko 5 Pepsi for around 150€. That was my first *own* watch.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
For whatever reason, I had a Casio Calculator watch when I was in fourth grade. I lost that within a week.
The first watch I bought for myself was a Seiko SNZF15K1
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
According to many sources, the first wristwatch was a "Santos" by Cartier from 1904. I have an Elgin wristwatch from 1896, that is not a conversion and was most likely made by a worker in the factory for themselves who had the idea of a wristwatch before Louis Cartier had it, but probably couldn't tell anyone as he didn't do what he was supposed to with the parts
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Get something mechanical, that is not a homage watch but focus on what YOU like - not what the most favorite YouTuber tells you to buy or like.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Wittnauer
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
I would love to get my hands on a NOS Kal. 59 Glashütte Chronograph.
