State of the Collection - and suggestions?

I'm aware that my collection is not everybody's cup of tea. But that, of course, is not the point, the point is that i like it - and i DO like it! I wouldn't change much ... except ...

... all of my watches, except for the square G-Shock (of course) are kind of old and fragile. The AP is from 1997, the Rolex from 1981, the Rado was born in 1970 or 1969 and the Seiko probably is a 1982. When the weather forecast says it's going to rain (heavy rain), i have to wear the G-shock.

So i decided i 'need' a new watch. A watch that is much newer (or new), waterproof and can be used as a daily watch. Rain or shine.

Any suggestions? Maximum price is around $10.000,-

A couple of (obvious) possibilities i'm looking at:

  • Omega Speedy (have not tried it, maybe too big???)

  • Tudor Black Bay 58 GMT 39mm (have not tried it yet)

  • Rolex Explorer 39mm (tried it), or the 36mm (have not tried it)

  • A Seiko, like the Captain Willard?

  • ...

Any 'not so obvious possibilities' i'm missing here?

Nice collection, particularly the Rado!

Can't go wrong with the Willard, proper tough & very comfortable- my Mrs nicked mine a couple of days ago and she commented on it's comfort and style (and she's very fussy, usually wears her Cartier Ballon Bleu most of the time)

I'm an Omega fan myself,so I'd suggest the Seamaster 300 heritage.

·

My suggestion - get out there and just try a bunch on. Enjoy the process.

This is a gorgeous collection! I’m all for owning an AP and a lasalle. Also happy to see someone besides myself with a vintage Rado.

Going to go with the obvious here and say explorer or BB58. Everyday, never have to worry watches.

An outlier would be fairly recent Yachtmaster 37. Under 10k and just quirky enough to deserve to be part of this group. Can’t wait to see what you choose!

·

Fancy collection indeed! If you ask me it could be complemented by a colourful diver, thinking of

  • Omega Seamaster Professional

  • Seiko Captain Willard

  • Glashütte Original SeaQ

  • Breitling Superocean

  • Tudor Pelagos

·

Beautiful collection. You might want to try the bb54 alongside the 58 too.

Thanks for the suggestion, will have a look at it. Never entered my mind: Glashütte Original SeaQ

That Rado is a Killer !!!! Nice !

·

Gotta be explorer 36 isnt? After that you can happily retire with that banger! 😍

·

First, what a collection! I’ve never seen the version of the Cellini that you own, and I have to say, it’s stunning! As for a recommendation for your consideration, what are your thoughts on a JLC Polaris?

·

What about Cartier Santos - First pilot watch!

·

Breitling Chronomat 42mm with bullet bracelet re launched a few years ago.

Good suggestion. But to big for my taste. Injudted to own a JLC Amvox Austin Martin (steel), I believe it has the same 42mm case. Loved the look of the watch - but it just seemed too big for my small wrist.

What about Cartier Santos - First pilot watch!

Yes, that could work. Will check it out! 🙏

·

Wow, that Rado StarLiner ist a stunner! 😍

·

Explorer 36

That rado is incredible, lovely collection.

For a slightly dressier diver (cause all your watches look quite dressy!) I'd vote for the longines legend diver 39mm.

Image

I love that watch. Tried it on and it wears like a dream. Is on my list ( which is quite an extensive list by now)

·

I feel like this is wear Rolex shines with the DJ/Day Date/OP. Dressy watches with heritage design that you don't have to baby. If you're avoiding Rolex because you already have one, Omega AquaTerra could be something to consider too!

Tag Heuer Carrerra 3 hander might be something to consider as well perhaps?

I love seeing carefully curated collections rather than the usual Rolex stainless steels so thanks for sharing.

Why not another integrated bracelet to keep it consistent with the rest of the collection? Cartier Santos is a safe choice or an IWC GST like mine, I think they are fantastic and great value.

I have the alarm in titanium but you can chose different materials/complications.

Wow thanks for sharing. I used to own that watch (the white one). About 12 years ago I sold all my watches to fund a new company. Truth be told I miss some of those watches a lot, including the GST. So recently (after I sold the company I started by selling all my watches) I got back into watches again. So maybe a GST is an option too. The IWC GST alarm was my daily watch for years and years.

I’m a little concerned about the waterproofness of these watches though, as most IWC GSTs approach 25 years of age. I had my AP royal oak from ‘97 recently serviced and the sticker on the box explicitly said that the watch is NOT garuenteed to be waterproof anymore. Even after a complete (and expensive) overhaul. Any thoughts about this

Really nice stuff. If you want something different I’d go for a diver. The Explorer isn’t different enough from what you have. The Sub is nice and very popular but I like the BB better - I think it’s a smoother look. Maybe in bronze would be nice - it does petina well.

How funny you had the IWC GST, what are the chances!

Can you refine your waterproof needs? The spectrum is quite wide between the occasional splash from tap water to the full blown beach holiday. I am confident that the GST can handle the splash which is fine for day to day wear (it was rated 100m 20 years ago after all) but I would never dare taking it to the pool. If you want it to be able to handle everything and your budget is $10k then I would give some thoughts to the Fifty Fanthoms or the Cartier Diver in addition to the Doxa, Longines… mentioned by other crunchers

IWC Mark if some kind:

·

Grand Seiko, Breitling, Girard Perregaux:)

·

Omega Aqua Terra 38 or Rolex OP 39/41

·

for some reason, I feel like the iwc aquatimer would make a nice addiction to this collection.

Indeed, what are the chances 😊I have a couple of watches I like very much, but they are delicate watches. Or at least delicate enough to not go hiking (for weeks on end) with them. I know I have the G-Shock and I love that one too, but I am longing for a ‘nice’ watch that can do it all today. Even swim (during our hikes we sometimes have to wade through rivers). So an older watch (say 20 years plus) I wouldn’t trust doing that.

But any new or newish watch capable of 100 meters is ok. I’m not rough with the watches, sometimes they get wet 😊

Thanks for the suggestions.

Man, I love your collection. Shouting "DOWN WITH BORING WATCHES!"

Therefore I don't see a Speedy as your daily beater. Too boring, too standard. In my opinion.

Here are few ideas.

On the edge of your limit, the Glashütte Original SeaQ.

Image

Speaking of Rado: The Rado Captain Cook High Tech Ceramic. A reliable great looking watch, that never gets old...litterally...thanks to the scratch cresistant ceramic. There are many differebt options. This the most expensive with around 5K.

Image

Or from Lehmann a complete inhpise made one. They even offer ceramic cases. And their visual movements are true party.

Image
Image

But why spending that much money? On the lower price end, I think this one would be worth a try" Wise Adamascus AD8 for little over 600. Using 903 steel, ceramic and other quality materials and great manufacturing.

Or even with more history as a alternative to the explorer:

Nivada Antarctica.

I'm sure you will chose wisely...again

Beautiful collection!

From your collection I’m guessing you like dressier watches, I feel those will fit your collection and meet your daily needs, excluding obvious ones like Rolex and Omega. I only picked watches with 100m/10ATM water resistance otherwise there are just far too many.
