Citizen Chronomaster

A picture in focus would be a good start, and perhaps one of the case back too. Even better one of the movement.

And they say UFOs are fake!

In the absence of anything in focus, I would hazard a guess that …

  1. It’s an f type movement which Citizen made over an extended period from the 1930s into the 1950s. It’s usually a 16 jewel relatively simple/basic design, running at 5 beats per second (18,000 beats per hour).

  2. I would be surprised if the dial says “Chronomaster” as I didn’t think they coined the term until the late 1960s. But it might say “Chronometer” which was used on some watches before becoming associated with specific accuracy criteria/requirements in the 1960s. In some cases “chronometer” was used to indicate higher end (materials, finishing, adjustment, etc.) but not always.

  3. Date wise it’s either 1940s or 1950s. My guess is that it’s on the cusp (so sitting on the fence a bit). The 1950s moved into plainer case styling and ultimately to movements with a centre second hand. The somewhat fancy lugs and sub second dial lean me towards late 40s or early 50s.

  4. If I’m right it’s a nice thing but not hugely valuable. Well worth a hobbyist maintaining or, if you really love it or it has sentimental value and it needs a service, finding a good inexpensive traditional watchmaker.

Sorry the blurred pic really isn’t much to go on!

Those lugs are beautiful.

Thanks for all the comments, this was the photo I received from a family member whose watch this was .After a lot of squinting it says Citizen chronometer on the dial so when I receive it I'll be taking the back off ,checking out what movement is in it and seeing if it can be brought back to life.As we all know it's not about how much a watch is worth , this is a family members granddad's watch so to him it's priceless 👍
