Perpetual Calendar Watch Question - Do you have other watches or only wear the QP to make sure it’s up to date?? Picture for reference only

I’ve been wanting a QP for quite some time. My biggest concern is, how do I keep it running all the time. Yes, I have a winder but I don’t want to leave it in a box. I’m afraid that I won’t want it to fall behind, so I won’t wear my other watches. So do you sell your collection, keep a beater and the QP?

For those who have QP’s, do you have other watches? Did you get rid of your collection to only have a QP?

Nope, get a nice winder and admire when not being worn.

I have an AP RO QP. It was delivered with a winding box and for years that’s where I kept it. When I got it back from AP service I wore it a few times but honestly I never really liked the watch. And it’s just too expensive to be a daily wear anyway. So for the last umpteen years it has sat in my SDB unused and definitely unloved. I have many other watches I much prefer. Some are essentially 100x cheaper too.

Thank you for sharing and that’s what I’m afraid of! To daily it would be too much and to store it would make me sad! Watch collecting problems ;)

Every person is different,of course, so I can only speak for myself. I have an Oysterquartz DayDate and a RG Santos that I much prefer wearing. I can dress both formally or casually and both are appropriate. The world has changed drastically since I purchased the RO. Would I feel comfortable wearing it for a night on the town? Definitely not.

I own several perpetual calendar watches purchased before you needed to sell body parts to afford one reasonably, complicated movements were my reason for collecting timepieces but for me they became a bit of a bother so they sit in my safety deposit box waiting for my family members to sell them off in the future. I keep a Breitling Navitimer 1461 4 year annual calendar around to rotate with my other watches, still needs to be kept running but it is fun. Oddly I still investigate perpetuals and really wanted a Baume and Mercier Riviera perpetual limited to 50 worldwide last year, was not offered one.

I have a steel JLC perpetual calendar. It came with this matching rubber strap and a metal bracelet both with butterfly clasp. I wear it regularly and was my most worn watch in 2023. Quite comfortable and fun to wear. I generally put it on a winder if I’m putting it down for a few days+. I have thought and came close to buying an annual calendar especially the Lange 1815 but never have pulled the trigger as I have some concerns about wrist time interference.

Not that I could even imagine affording one but what is a QP, perpetual calendar?

Beautiful watch!! It’s on my wish list!! Thank you for sharing

Perpetual calendars are tough because they are so easy to break too. I don’t like having them at all. Have 1 right now but never bother setting it.

Life would have been so much sweeter without this silly expensive hobby, less noble than say building birdhouses or feeders, simple furniture. 🙏

That's what I was wondering about automatic perpetuals

If I would have them they would have to live on a winder while not wearing. I like to wear different watches and my collection is at a size that it will run out of power reserve. Yes, even that n hours one....

I love the mastery to create them and I kinda want one but for me they're not practical at all. They're a nightmare to set, if you can do it yourself without having to send it in. They're so delicate that you can set them wrong and you risk breaking them or accept you have now the time of 2267 on your wrist...

For me this is one of the examples where quartz really is the best option. And most of the above can be said about mechanical/automatic moonphase watches as well. They're awesome, I want them but they're not the best option for me.

I don't wear mine everyday but I try to keep it wound or only go a few days in between so setting isn't a pain.

I have an RO Perpetual and I just hand wind it every day. It's one of my daily joys.
