Found my Patek. Maybe?
Almost as long as I've been an enthusiastic collector, I have been a Lange guy. And I've never really given Patek much of a look. I could get into the reasons why, but that's mostly just a personal taste thing and not very interesting.
I got married in 2022, and to mark the occasion, I got a Lange 1815 Annual Calendar with only passing looks at the Patek 5146J or the 5035R.
Now, I'm looking around at the next BIG watch purchase in my life. At the rate that I can put money away (and not have my wife leave me), I think I can manage two more purchases like this before I am six feet under.
So what to get? I've been looking at more Langes like a Lange 1 and an 1815 Chrono and also at Vacherons like the Overseas or various Historiques. I didn't really look hard again at Pateks until the other day, when I stumbled on the 5212A. I'd seen this watch before, maybe two years ago, on some Tim Mosso review, but I honestly didn't think much of it then. This time, however, it just hit me totally differently. Looking at the 5212A, I understand why I overlooked it originally and also why I'm attracted to it now. Part of it is that I'm just more into dress watches with quirks, but I also think I appreciate what Patek is doing with the overall design.
Anyone else have an experience like this? You look at a watch or an entire brand and it never really does much for you, until it suddenly does?

I've also been looking at Patek lately, nothing serious but just more on the radar than before. The 5212 is gorgeous. My true grail is a 3970 but a goal watch might be something more like a 5196 or earlier Calatrava design.
FWIW, a Lange 1 would pair well with your 1815AC. I have one with my 1815UD 👍
I had the same thing with Patek. I owned a lot of other brands. Then I had to have the 6006G. Unique and different! The 5212 is on my radar howler i think it might be too similar?
The Weekly Calendar is on my wishlist if I ever get a Patek. That is a Patek I could see myself wearing. I’m on a waitlist but the pre loved prices tends to go below new so that is probably my route if I finally pull the trigger.
