I needed a distraction from the dire news of the world. And so, I started to listen to a few podcasts about watches. It gave me a sense of calm to just listen to people so passionate about this obsolete relic of our time. In a world full of mayhem, it really is a hobby all about the appreciation of beautiful things. And I wanted to be a part of it.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
My parents gifted me a Skagen some years ago. It was a nice fashion watch, however the crystal shattered in the harsh Toronto winter. I kept its broken parts somewhere. Probably in my parents’ house. I’ll try to look for it the next chance I get.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
Not yet!
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Seiko, Citizen, Casio — really the entry level brands. But if I’m looking at ever obtaining my first luxury piece, it will probably be Mido and Tag Heuer.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
Heuer Montreal 110.503NC. Being from Canada originally, I spent a lot of fun summers & weekends in Montreal. To have the name of the city on the watch makes this quite desirable for me. Also as a physician by trade, I believe a pulsometer is fitting.
