Seiko 5 photoshoot

Does the seiko 5 hold up with more expensive watches nowadays?

·

I am no authority but I think my Seiko 5 GMT has a long life ahead of itself.

I think so Nathan, especially the 5's. Presage & Prospect etc. Of course they could be better in quality control and they need to use sapphire more, but I think they hold their own.

Love to hear that

I own an SRPE53, and I love that little thing, and put it on a Jubilee bracelet. For $200 it is absolutely great. The design is very consistent yet restrained. I personally prefer mineral glass, and an 4r35 is something I'm very familiar with.

It's a Seiko 5, so what would you compare it to? My 35mm quartz PRX has an interesting bracelet and a neat retro design. It cost me $300 vs. the $250, I paid for the SRPE. I couldn't say that one was a better buy over the other. The SRPG27 is a similarly priced watch I like better, largely because of the raised numerals.

I have more expensive watches with great leather straps. If you get into the $600 to $900 category you will get better cases, too. $200 will buy you a lot if you mod, also.

That being said, the SRPE53 is pretty much a no-brainer, meaning that nothing is seriously wrong.

I own a Rowing Blazers SRPJ65 and really enjoy the watch.

While I know it’s a limited piece, I think it still speaks to what a Seiko 5 is.

The quality is fine for me. I know people have issues sometimes. Perhaps I was fortunate.

With Seiko 5 Sports as low as $200 on sellers like Jomashop, how can you go wrong?

Sure there are microbrands out there that might be argued can provide more for the money, but for major manufacturers Seiko can hardly be beat.

I think so. Affordable, durable, good specs and very versatile.

·

Sieko 5 GMT certainly will.

it's a great value from a big name. i own a few. they holds up as an every day watch butt lacks the pro specs. enjoy them for what they are. they work great & look great.

·

Heck yea they do! Hell of a watch and love my #seiko's and #gshock's as much as my #omega's! Wear it well!

Lume on these seiko 5s don't disappoint 👌

·

It does not as well as the sunburst dials and bezels. If you can afford $200-$300 for a watch this would be my pick. And it comes in a variety of other colors too.

·

No they don’t. Problems with their cases, bezels and cheap bracelets. The Chinese watch makers are going to kick their butt if Seiko doesn’t watch out. However if you buy their Japanese market only watches you might fair better as I found out. One has to wonder about the message they’re sending us in that regards. I would say hmmm!

Fair enough, I just find the appeal of a seiko very interesting to me, and the case and finishing aren't bad, but certainly is topped by more expensive watches

·

The old ones with the 7S26 movements don't really hold up simply because of the movements.

The new 4r series have upgraded specs like hacking and handwinding

·

For me the SRPE5 model design without the bezel is almost perfect, IF ONLY it had a screw-crown and sapphire lens.

·

Yes, rock solid 4r and versatility in spades. Only get better with age in my view.

I agree, if we look at the old seiko 5s they aged well, so I'm excited to see how the new generation age in the future

I have the same watch on a Jubilee. It‘s such a great GADA Watch and beats most of the Watches under 2k 🔥
