The issue with this San Martin….

Haven’t been one to support these “homage” (or ripoff) type watches. I would typically side with “save and buy the real thing.” But also get, this is a silly hobby and no one actually cares. So I impulsed purchased this guy straight from China. The San Martin SN0138.

Overall very very impressed with the quality of this thing!

The bezel and dial are a perfect match, not quite matte black but an anthracite color. The bezel is aligned perfect. The proportions are solid and the finishing on the case and bracelet is also phenomenal. And it dresses well on so many straps (rocking on this leather for now).

All for $230……

But the issue with this San Martin is now I just want the Black Bay 54.

Agree 100%. They are surprisingly good and incredible value, but they’ve never scratched the itch for the real thing

Absolutely. And if you buy one to test if you want the real thing, does anyone really lose out here? If I was starting in the hobby now, I think I'd be buying quite a few of these. The quality is just going to go up and up. As with anything Chinese, frankly. If they keep Swiss, German and Japanese watch companies on their toes, that's good for all of us. 👍

Yes, I’ve got six of them now. All high quality and fun watches.

I’ve been there. It scratches the itch for the real thing for a minute but then you’ll end up getting later but now you lost out on what you spent for the homage

You should check out their original design watches. Same great build quality, but without the homage feeling. You aren’t “settling” for anything, it’s just a well built watch for a great price. I have one of their skin divers, and a year of the dragon limited edition GMT from last year, and I love them both. The GMT honestly has one of the best bracelets I’ve felt, certainly the best one under $400.

You should see the Sn0144, superb quality!

That’s why I no longer want to get one! It’s going to ruin my expectations for affordable watches! My goal is to continue to enjoy watches in the sub-1k category— so I say Not Today 👹San Martin!
