Watch hack to keep your clasp from getting scratched

I buy 3M protective tape that is designed for the edges of doors on cars from Amazon. I put it on every single watch I have that has a fold over clasp It keeps What typically is the most scratched part of anybody’s watch scratch free for life

·

Clever! Clasps definitely get pretty brutalized.

·

But your bracelet will get scratched, they're meant to be enjoyed, each ding and scratch is a story waiting to be told

I typically don’t remember when and where a watch may get scratched or dinged so I really don’t have any stories about it.

My OCD is getting triggered by this.

The tape looks worse than scratches in my opinion.

That’s because I Took the photo right after i applied it. Once it cures it becomes invisible

Tape that cures and becomes invisible..?

I'll believe it when I see it.

Now that’s better than earlier. Looks like you just took the tape off, lol.

Its paint protection film. The same as you have put on your car... It becomes undetectable.

I wear my watches like I drive raptor in Baja. Full tilt the way it should be.

You have no reason to then....

I'm not trying to be mean but honestly I just don't believe it.

The original photo had a thick obvious slab of tape on it. The updated photo doesn't have anything on it.

Its exaclty the same stuff i have on my cars. (see picture) You mist the surface, you put he film on it, you slide it where you want it, It has a few bubbles it dries invisible.

You can belive it or not

It’s all the watchuseek people. Max and team need to uphold the original no ahole policy or I will be gone soon. It has been a great friendly and positive community

No need to disparage other sites. I find WUS informative as I do other fora.

There will always be differences of opinions and different personalities and there is room for others who don't share your views. A successful forum is a tolerant forum.

There are tools in place to simply block those who bother you. I use the block feature often and it makes my experience much better.

I might rub some the wrong way but I have helped more here than hindered.

·

You put in on the crystal/dial area or just the clasp?

·

For all the naysayers out there this stuff really works. I have it on the clasp of my GMT Master Ii and the bezel of my Santos de Cartier. When applied per directions it dries perfectly clear and without bubbles. It truly disappears. Essentially like a screen protector on your cell phone.

There's been a couple of times on WC where I've restrained myself from commenting, "have you tried watchuseek? I think you might find quite a few kindred spirits there."

I agree, the anti-rude atmosphere of WC is precious and must be protected.

Yes I noticed we are now starting to get a few toxics from watchuseek. Ive been on there since 2011 but only rarely post just lurk because if you post on there be prepared to get attacked immediately 🤣. Well not always attacked but you will get bitter replies

Why are differing ideas always considered as negativity here??

Are we becoming a Stepford forum?

Discussions have 2 sides.

Absolutely. We agree.

Differing opinions are fine

It's the disparaging tone. Unnecessary.

Rule 1. Don't be a dick.

Being disparaging is being a dick.

I’ve seen entire watches with this stuff installed, including the case, crystal, and each individual link. I don’t think it detracts from the look of the watch at all. I would be curious to see how it looks when removed though, because I know clear bra can leave glue residue on cars.

Ultimately none of my watches are worth the effort to install this, but I would probably give it a try if I had a piece unique or something expensive enough to warrant the protection. I also think it’s a great idea if you buy a vintage piece that you’d like to keep pristine for the value, but you’d also like to wear and enjoy it. My philosophy is the same for clear bra on cars. None of my cars are worth the expense of installing clear bra. But you can bet if I bought a 360CS or a 997 GT3 RS I’d get the whole car wrapped!

·

Wow! I really can't even tell there's tape on there. How long does it take to dry? Can you use your watch right away?

·

Amazing! When I 1st started getting watches I didn't really like bracelets and changed most of them to straps. Lately I have been liking the look and feel of bracelets though and the clasps do tend to get beat up. I am excited to do this. It reminds me of wrapping up my bike in tape when I was younger. 😂🍻

Agreed and it’s rather unfortunate. The few WUS sub forums I still visit (Sinn, GS) are still civil and very informative though so it depends on the sub forum.

Thank you for a post that will be useful and helpful for many people. Keep going. The WC community is with you 💯

When my offspring receive my watches one day and ask me about the story behind the scratches, I tell them about my great adventures as a desk diver. 😂
