Is this a good sign that the watch market is taking a downturn?
I was passing by a local AD and saw this at their window then checked their website. They are running 40% off offer...made me wonder is this a good sign for the watch enthusiast?

I would say it is a mix of downward market ( especially on less mainstream brands which Zenith is ) and the fact "Daytona replacement/alternative" hype is well gone.
Last year I remember looking at this model at AD and without question 20% off was on the table, for white version 10%. Ultimately was not impressed with the watch in person, especially bracelet and clasp quality are way below of what you normally see on 12k watch.
Agreed, I wish Zenith copied the Rolex oyster to some degree.

Bracelet and clasp are a disgrace honestly for a watch at this level of monies! I was so underwhelmed by it. Too bad it as I wanted to love it but left in dislike 😵💫
Zenith watches have never been best sellers but after some hesitation, I did buy a blue dial steel bezel version of the Chronomaster sport, ordered a pricy OEM strap and clasp that my ad brought in from America. I was keen to also buy the triple calendar moonphase chrono launched earlier this year but I feel the watch needed to be at least 40mm as opposed to the 38mm original size. My ad has sold a few to women but so far his male customers are not impressed. Even a 40% discount would not coax my credit card out from my wallet.
Its a shame, Zenith’s movement is awesome, not sure why their bracelet sucks.
