Hanhart 417es Review

After close to 2 years of ownership, I think I can finally review my grail. First of all, let's talk about their history. They were established in 1882, then blah blah, they make chronographs, blah blah blah, they made pilot watches for the German army, blah blah blah, Mr. McQueen wore one, and here we are. Now that we've got their history out of the way, we can talk about the watch.

Talk? Let's see photos! Just FYI, I own the 42mm because if it's not heavy, it's not real! Also, the 39mm came out 4 months later. Damn them!

With 100m WR but no screw-down crown, you can actually take a dive in the bathtub or go to the beach with no hesitation (yes, I still hesitate). The farthest I've gone is the sink and shower, just FYI.

As much as I love the Hanhart and it is my grail, not everyone can shell out 2,500+ bucks, and that's OK.

For those who are more budget-friendly, I got you! Here are some suggestions:

Did you know Matthew Tissot is another original company making Type XX, not just Breguet? At 300 for quartz, with heritage, you are not missing out, other than 30m WR, so just never shower soap is for normies anyways.

Want a little bit more? For $500, you can get a Hemel with a Seagull mechanical movement that looks hot!

You know Aliexpress homages even their own mothers!

Type XX and mechanical movement for 300? why not?

Someone posted this pic on Instagram; it looks good too. Obviously, the lume and numbers look a tiny bit sloppy, but who's going to grab your arm and look closely?

Finally for the weird people that wear a watch to actually tell time:

I have no idea if that's a good number but the app seems to work.

Enjoy!

  • Affordable for such iconic watch.
  • Still keeps true to their DNA.
  • The OEM band feel very comfortable.
  • 100m water resistant
  • 21mm for straps can be limiting and annoying
  • A bit chunky at 13.5mm for hand wound movement
  • Forget going to a store to try it on (in the US at least).
  • At 2,500+ USD is not something you impulse buy

I love mine. I also have the large size but it works for my wrist size. 39mm can be a little small. I think the panda is the cool one.

Wearing this today…

Also might swatch to this later…

Alright then! Not from online pics or a few hours total time on the wrist but almost two years! That level of familiarity with a watch deserves eyeballs. The humor and alternative suggestions were nice stylistic aspects blah, blah, blah...👍
