New Release - Limited Edition Longines 'Majetek' in Titanium

Image

After teasing the release on IG earlier in the week Longines have today unveiled this limited release (1935 pces) called the Longines Pilot Majetek Pioneer Edition.

Image

First re-issued ~ 10 yrs ago as the 'Heritage 1935' the watch picked up the nickname 'Majetek' - short for 'Majetek Vojenske Spravy' or property of military administration, which I'm told are words that can be found on the original reference supplied to the Czechoslovakian Air Force in the 1930s.

Image

The original was a big boy (for the time) at 40mm to accommodate the pocket watch movement 15-94. The re-issue is scaled up to 43mm and has a more 'mission ready' aesthetic than other Majetek re-issues thanks to a matte black dial and a mostly brushed titanium case.

God it's beautiful 😍 #longines

·

I like it but would never buy it.

·

Love mine in steel!

Bad ass!

·

I think it looks cool but would look ridiculous on a small wrist like mine hahaha

I've got a 20cm / 7.75in wrist and didn't really gel with the steel version when I tried it on. This Ti variant might be different. It's big for sure, but I agree, it's great looking.

·

Love it.

Prefer the steel version tho.

Beautiful 🤩

I think I do to Steve, at least aesthetically.

I am looking forward to getting hands on with it at some stage though. I found the steel version a little cumbersome on the wrist tbh, so perhaps in titanium that'll change? It needs another strap too … maybe it'll come alive on a nice bit of distressed leather.

I love the original watch, and the re-issue Longines did a few years ago, but the proportions of this one just look ‘off’ to my eyes. The dial-to-bezel ratio, in particular, looks wrong, with the dial looking particularly cramped and tiny.

Here’s an original and the 2106 re-issue for those who haven’t seen them

Actually it's hard to disagree with that Glennan.

I had another look and I'm left wondering how much of what you say comes down to how the Ti version is finished. There's a lot more light and shade to the steel watch, more contrast and the titanium looks a little flat in comparison.

As handsome as the re-issues are neither quite captures the original. I think it's the delicacy of the slight bezel and slender lugs that elevates the original. Otherwise the lines are fairly brutal so the re-issue lacks the that subtlety.

I don't want to give the impression that I'm bagging the re-issues though 'cause regardless of what I just said I was really disappointed that my wrist didn't get on with it. I'm not writing this titanium variant off either. The OEM strap is uninspired and it's lack of contrast does nothing for the watch. I'm not sure the photos are great either.

Dunno if it's driven by wishful thinking but I reckon in the metal things might be different. And I'm thinking Rios 1931 for the strap - they always seem to have just the right look for vintage inspired military / aviation watch and the heavy duty construction would suit too.

I’ve tried the steel version and it suffers from the same odd proportions.

The other oddity is the combination of modern sizing (well, early 2000’s sizing!) and vintage detailing.

I think the titanium will help with the overall wearing experience but you’ll still have to prefer a big watch. I’m a big guy, with a wide wrist and there aren’t many watches I can’t get away with, but the new Majetek did feel a big lump on my wrist.

Yeah, same Glennan. That reflects my experience almost exactly - including wrist size ect.

Gotta admit, I thought that it feels a little like two steps forward, one step back from the brand given the recent turn towards reduced sizing and the calibre of their releases in general.

From memory, Longines have staggered releases around this time of year in the recent past. If so, there might be more to come. Hope so.

I’ve still got to admire Longines for putting out a product like this, even if it’s not for me. So many of the big brands have seriously curtailed their innovation in the last couple of years

Yeah, that's a fair point.

I was invited to the release last year where Longines had an original Majetek and then took us for a helicopter tour!

Through blind chance I walked passed a Longines AD this afternoon and they happened to have a (steel) Majetek in the window:

Honestly, on wrist it reminds me of my Bulova Precisionist; only not as well proportioned and 30 times the price!

That would've been fun indeed.

That OG Majetek looks fantastic.

There you go.

It didn't gel with me either, despite being one of the watches I was really excited about.

I’m going’s to try the titanium when it lands in store though. My experience with the Ultra Chron, which I loved on the bracelet but didn’t take a shine to on leather showed me that a =/> 43mm barrel / tonneau cased tool watch can work on my wrist.

Thanks for the heads up Glennan.

I remember when they released it a year or two ago, lot of critics. But many that’s a gorgeous watch.

Wow. Yeah it looks a lot like it. Do they still sell yours. What’s the reference. Equally as nice, and probably cheaper, yeah? Great watch either way.

·

Nice Longines a bit to big for me though.

The Bulova is a 96B229. They went out of production a few years ago but you can still pick them up for $100 - $150 if you search long enough.
