Does anyone actually HATE quartz? Do people actually have hate in their hearts for quartz?
A great answer to the question of quartz vs mechanical I once came across is "I don't need either. I prefer mechanical because its inner workings fascinate me" or something like that. I like the thought of gears spinning away on my wrist.
Quartz is cool and convenient, and a technological marvel. Mechanical watches are cool and harken back to a time when all watches were powered by springs and gears.
We all wear what we want!
It has to look good.
It has to fit into my collection.
It has to be a good shape for my wrist.
It has to have a philosophy and brand I agree with.
I have to like it.
And finally, it has to be within my budget. The Omega Speedmaster might tick all but the last box, but when one's watch budget is a few hundred dollars, well...
There are many factors that go into a watch purchase decision, and there isn't one most important one for all purchases. Price is the final checkpoint, in a way.
"But Im still trying to be convinced that Patek is actually 2000 times better than this Pagani because its 2000 times more expensive" - 💯. Like trying to argue that an elite college gives you an education that is TWENTY TIMES better than a state school's.
Ok.
Well, the problem with this hobby is that it is about buying things, and we are never satisfied. This is the problem with any hobby that is about collecting/buying.
Not the first post I've seen complaining about these problems, which are inherently part of this hobby.
We should try to appreciate our watches more instead of looking to the next piece immediately, but again, it's always "just one more watch".
In conclusion, we should have other hobbies that are more about DOING things in addition to watch collecting so not all of our time goes to buying expensive toys. 😂
