The limits of competence

Maybe I should limit myself to what I'm good at, which is drinking more coffee and taking less photos. My excuse (I have plenty of those) was that by trying different shooting angles I'll be able to get better photos, and improve my photography skills. This was clearly a misconception.

I failed at framing the SARB through the cup's handle and the focus selection of the next shot failed to blur the foreground and keep the Alpinist as the central piece of this composition.

Even falling back on the wrist shot was only a partial success, I mean that this time I managed to remember to set the date before taking the shot, but this is more a credit to remembering that June only has 30 days and less of a matter of mastering the use of a camera since I could not even get a glimpse of the green sunburst and golden glitter.

Oh well...there's always coffee, I guess.

How will you get better if you only do the things you’re already good at?

I spend hours it seems every day thinking about how to frame photos that I see in my mind’s eye with my watches! I honestly lose track of time (which is a wonderful pun!)

I never am too discouraged. I’m learning new techniques quickly and I’m having fun! I find it to be very challenging and rewarding ‘side’ hobby.

Keep at it my friend! I look forward to your compositions! 😎

Easy: I'll get better at what I'm already good at.

Are you being facetious in your writing, or are you really this hard on yourself? If I saw someone talking so negatively to another person as you are doing to yourself I would call them out as a bully.

That aside, the only way to grow in a hobby is to do it for the love of doing it and forget about being good or not. Skill grows naturally over time, but not if we keep criticizing ourselves to the point of quitting out of frustration.

Let joy be the motivation.

I get a lot of joy at making fun of myself.
