Budget Beater Field Watch Recommendations

The title is pretty self-explanatory. I've done a good bit of my own research, but I wanted to pick the brains of all you other crunchers to hear your experience and recommendations; In your opinion what is the best beater field watch under or around $200.

By beater field watch, I mean a field watch that is meant to be beaten up, and heavily used... not just a field style watch. Think Bertucci A-2T, or DX3 which are currently two of the frontrunners in my search. Not really looking for a more dressy Khaki field or something like that. I want something I can wear no matter what and not worry about it. While I do eventually want to get a G-shock, I'm not looking for one right now, so those are off the table.

Feel free to send pictures of your beater watch below, I'd love to see them!

·

Bertucci isn't very easy to beat at that price range if you like them. Timex is the only brand I can think of that would offer something similar. Casio might too, but probably more stylized.

·

I never thought I would "need" a field watch but this $70 Bertucci is perfect for mountain biking! My first watch this type of nylon strap as well I am surprised how much I like it!

Another vote for Bertucci

Awesome watch, just curious as to how the polycarbonate case has held up to wear and tear. That was one of the big things I was a little nervous about in terms of the Bertuccis in the $70 range.

Ratio does these in 4-5 colors and only $40 with a Seiko VX42 movement and sapphire glass, with 316L steel case and 40mm.

I just don’t think you can beat that bang for buck. I have not bought one… yet.

Just discovered yesterday.

My two submissions for you are: Timex Expedition North Mechanical and the Casio MRW200h. Both are under $200 with the Casio being only $30.

Bertucci, Casio, Timex. Bertucci would be on my list as well, but I already have a G-shock and too many watches. 😀

·

Vaer have some excellent 36mm and 40mm quartz options coming in just under 200 USD. Check out their S3 and S5.

I prefer field watches for beaters.

·

Vaer watches have a couple field watches under $200. Occasionally, marathon watches will run sales on their GPQ models if you want something with tritium (granted they come in just above $200)

·

Great value, but the date window cutting off the 3 would drive me nuts due to my OCD.

·

Really, really hard to beat the Baltany chrono at around $170. You can usually get it for $150 or less during one of the AliExpress sales. I'm actually wearing it as we speak. The sapphire crystal on this is virtually invisible! The strap kinda sucks, so just throw it on anything you got (I wear it on rubber).

The #citizen garrison has been pretty highly recommended but haven’t seen myself. I think eco drive is awesome and adds level of robustness and dependability. 100m WR. Titanium is also an interesting option that citizen does extremely well at this price point. I think Bertucci is hard to beat value wise but these are an interesting option to consider. Citizen also has other field style watches in their catalog. Last I saw some old new stock promaster toughs going for ~$200 which is an absolute steal for a field(ish) gada

I love that casio

Vaer has some decent options that come just under $200 new.

·

Here's one from left field but it's my favorite beater. Thing is it's $245. However it has a 60 hour power reserve movement that's been very accurate for the last 2 years I've owned it. As legible as anything you can buy because the fully lumed dial lasts for hours and the ar coating is good. Sapphire crystal, brushed ceramic bezel that works great. The whole thing is done in a rough brushing including the great engineer bracelet. 200 meters, shock resistant easy grip signed crown and works well with my rubber straps too.

I’ll add another recommendation for Vaer

A bunch of nice recommendations, but nobody really offered any mechanical options. Try a Vostok, if you would like it to be mechanical. For about $150 you can get an heritage brand with a vast variety of designs. Also, alot of ppl mentioned Bertucci, but there is also a Chinese brand that does an homage, with a seiko nh35 and sapphire classic. The name has escaped my for some reason, they go for sub $100. Excellent value...
