About to try Omega Aqua Terra 41

Hi! Can somebody give me a hand chosing Omega Aqua Terra 41, I’m between this or Rolex Dj for daily use. I have heard it is same or better quality than Rolex but Rolex is just more expensive, your comments are welcome

·

Firstly, let's get the brand issue out of the way. 🙂 If you want a Rolex, nothing else will substitute. If you want an Omega, nothing else will substitute. But I'm going to guess from your question that the brand name is not the primary motivator for you.

Build quality will be roughly equivalent, with a slight edge going to the Rolex's bracelet. The Omega has the edge in features, giving you an independently jumping hour hand, which is great for travel. You also get a display back showing off the beautiful movement.

Both watches are comfortable everyday pieces. Styling is entirely subjective, and only you know which one looks best to you.

I'd advise trying on both pieces and going with the one that makes your heart race a little. 🙂

The same applies if you move down a few thousand dollars and only spend $200 - $500.

You're still paying a ton for the Omega name. Which is fine!

For example this one was $160 new. Titanium, sapphire, solar, loaded with features and beautiful finishing.

And here I'm probably still paying a nice bit of money for the Casio name.

Go for the Omega if you love it. Or the Rolex. Don't worry too much about actual value unless that's really important to you.

·

The question is “do you want timeless and elegant or an Omega”. People consider this Omega a dress watch but I find it busy, cluttered and trying to include too many design features at once.

·

I have a couple of Datejusts, currently one Aqua Terra. Of the 3, I wear my AT way more often than either Datejust. That's down to it being a more casual looking watch that's way easier to change out the bracelet for rubber, sailcloth, leather straps. The AT can be worn at any occasion, the Datejust less so, in my opinion.

Both watches are finished superbly with the Rolex edging the Omega slightly, on account of it being highly polished solely. The AT I have has some brushed finishing which for some means it looks less luxury than the Datejust.

The one thing that the AT can't compete with the Datejust is it's just not as iconic a watch. The AT makes less of a statement, which is a plus for me & the reason I choose it as my favourite all round watch in my collection.

@drcarter13 owns this exact Aqua Terra. It’s stunning and am sure he can give a fair low down on it.

·

Love the aqua terra, I think there a better option than the obvious Rolex

·

Consider the previous model AT with the vertical “decking”.

·

I'd prefer the Omega, but it's your money not mine. There's very little between them. I guess the Rolex will impress other people more, if that's a factor.

·

You can actually buy a AT when you want one. Probably not so with the Dj.

The AT is more versatile on various straps or bracelet.

The AT has a more interesting dial.

The cyclops looks ‘wrong’ on the Dj.

If it were my money I’d get the AT. Only if I was trying to impress others I’d get the Dj.

·

Go Omega. Better movement and way less likely to get mugged for it.

·

I own both , but my a t is 39mm , I find it far more stylish than the op , especially the hands …. I prefer the omega, but it’s really down to personal choice 🤷🏻‍♂️

·

Recently quite fond of the Nomos club sport Neomatik as well - very compatible to these two, and probably the cheaper too. Pros are great colour on dials, thin, German, and pretty case back. Downside heard the lugs were a bit long. Should def give it a try before you pull the trigger!

·

Objectively the quality should be very close or non observable, subjectively you need to compare both on your hand. Small design differences, for example in the bracelet, can change the look and feel on your hand.

Pretty spot on I second this. Got to go with the brand you want. I think for daily wear and overall Rolex makes the most ergonomic friendly comfortable watches on the planet at any price point. That’s my choice but it’s two different watches you need to go with your heart

·

Are you looking for a daily beater? AT looks like a solid choice. Rolex gets a bit too dressy.

·

My Aqua Terra is the most versatile in really all occasions. Less to worry about.

·

Omega far and away the better value !! unless your after snob appeal

·

I own both, and I think the Aqua Terra (esp. green teak dial) is far and away the better watch. Far superior movement, better fit and finish, better dial, and totally top tier GADA. The only aspect my DJ 36mm w/fluted bezel (blue dial) has is its an iconic design - still a great watch in every regard, just not as a good as the AT IMO.

Omega Fanboy checking in.

Go for the Aqua Terra. Why? 'Cause that's what I have (kidding)

The AT is way prettier (IMO) than anything that isn't a Jaguar E-Type.

Well built, highly anti-magnetic, accurate.

The only watch I MIGHT like better is my Planet Ocean, and that's a damn big might.

·

I'm not really a Rolex fan, but I think they make great watches. I do have this AT in blue and love it. I highly suggest if you chose this, also get a rubber strap. One thing I will point out is the color you have shown here is green. I had both the blue and the green, I ended up getting rid of the green one. In my opinion, in 95% of lighting conditions, the green looks either dark grey or black, which I didn't like. Here is an example:

The blue nor any of the other lighter colors have this issue. Just something to consider. Good luck with your decision.

The Aqua Terra is very shiny for everyday use that bracelet will be full of scratches. I have the aqua Terra an amazing watch but where it in situations where I want to dress up. I had a date just also amazing but sold it and got a black bay 58 no date best every day watch for me

I really wish the full fat AT would fit me, but the 41mm variant wears large (since there's no dive bezel, the face aperture is quite an expanse to behold). Lug-to-lug is reasonable, but the sheer dial size is too much for me. Then again, the 41mm datejust would also look quite large on my 6.5" wrist.

As some of the comments above have said, the cal 8900 is superior to Rolex. Firstly, you get to see it in all it's glory through the caseback. Then the co-axial escapement and for me, a hidden detail I hadn't expected or seen advertised much, is the 'time-zone function' - the hour hand jumps backwards and forwards without interrupting the time keeping - like a GMT Flyer movement. I find that super cool. Also, the green teak dial is really nice..

However, I find Oyster cases fit more comfortably on my wrist and I think the thickness of the DJ might be a mm or so slimmer than the AT (not sure if that considers the cyclops though!?).

The last thing, with the Rolex, is that it's a Rolex.. If you buy it, you get to join the club.. Doors will open, pants will drop, home insurance premiums will rise. Owning an Omega is the smart move, but rightly or wrongly, the DJ comes with that little bit more pizzaz..

Either piece is going to be great. Looking forward to the NWA!

"Pants will drop"...??? 🤣🤣🤣

·

Since it appears that cost is not a factor I’d get the Datejust. Really like the Seamaster but I’d rather have DateJust. Made better? that’s very debatable, plus the bracelet is not the best. Get the watch that the Aqua Terra is trying to be.

*Actual effects may vary..

·

I own both AT41 Black & DJ36 two-toned, must say that the AT41 is my GADA watch and I wear my DJ during special occasions and events. I love them both.

·

Simple answer , if you intend on wearing it on the bracelet then get a DateJust .. I love my AT and wear in on leather, sailcloth and natos but the OEM bracelet is poor . Omega really need to improve this on a £5000 plus watch!!! Rolex bracelets are fantastic and on the fly adjustment ( easy link ) is a great feature.

·

I have both, and like others mentioned I wear my DJ on special occasions or if I'm dressed up. AT is far more wearable on more occasions, and I still fimd myself staring at it after a year of owning it.

·

I went into the shop to pick up a blue dial datejust in 2019 when such a thing was still possible and walked out with an aqua tera. It was just a nicer watch. I found the bracelet fitted me perfectly so the better adjustable clasp on the datejust wasn’t a factor. If you get the right fit the butterfly clasp on the omega is a much more elegant solution. I found the bracelet equally good but the omega had nicer more intresting case finishing nicer dial and hands and something I didn’t see until I tried them both on a better crystal. The omega crystal just disappeared when turning my wrist it’s the clearest one I’ve ever seen. The datejust is a great iconic watch but I found the Aqua Terra simply a nicer watch

·

Go with the Omega. I personally think it's more versatile. The rolex is fine but the Omega has more flair imho.

·

I love mine. Timekeeping is impeccable. Four years after purchase (used, no less), it still runs better than the stated specs. I often get +/- 2 seconds per week, let alone per day.
