Help me out with this vintage watch opportunity

So I’m at a local watch shop and I see these two vintage watches that really liked. I was immediately drawn to the dial of the Tissot and then I noticed the Omega Seamaster also. Are there any experts on these watches that can give me that push I need to pull the trigger here?

Much appreciated ✌️

The Tissot is very similar to the Certina DS-2 from the same era.

I've got 2 of them, 1 hand cranked, 1 auto, and they're fantastic on the wrist - extremely comfortable and full of that funked up 70's charm.

The Tissot looks at little more stout. The DS-2's were 38.5mm X 42mm X 12mm so they may not be that comparable (other than visually) and they're an extremely robust sports watch, so quite different from the Omega.

Both are fine looking watches though.

Would guess the Seamaster is early 1950's manual wind, somewhere between £600-£1200 depending on condition.

Sorry that's very vague, but hopefully has started the ball rolling & someone more knowledgeable will give you a better answer.

I've no idea about the Tissot tho.

Good luck 🍀

At a glance, the #tissot is a Seastar Automatic, early-mid 1970s and probably has a cal 2381 powerplant (which is a slightly modified ETA 2671 movement if memory serves). Which may make things easier (read slightly less expensive) if it needs servicing or parts down the road. I'm all for it's funky 70s aesthetic and I'm digging the strap/dial combo. I've seen them in various places online starting at about USD$200.

The small seconds #seamaster is a 2639-13 (??) from the early 50s and while still serviceable I'd be looking for a watchmaker I trusted if/when it needed servicing. Some reasonably poor (cosmetically) pieces go for around $750, I saw a nice one recently prices at about $1300.

Great to hear, thank you for the feedback my friend!

That’s great information, much appreciated! I’ll definitely be looking into this 👋

I ❤️ both brands, in this case the Tissot seems to be outstanding! (Sounds like will save you $ too depending on condition, go for serviced one). The sunburst look seems to be in right now.

Tell us what is your decision friend!

My personal preference would be for the Omega but the dial on the Tissot is stunning, I have a vintage Seamaster Calendar which looks to be a bit smaller than the one you were trying out and it hasn't given me any issues, I've not had any experience with the Tissot from this period so can't speak to that one

A lot of Tissot Seastars in the 1970s used the Tissot 2571 movement, jointly developed with/used by Omega for their entry level watches, they called it the cal 1481.

Ooh love this Omega. I been loving the vintage omegas lately and this one looks amazing! How much were they charging? You ship overseas? 😂

I’m glad I don’t have to choose…..

Both are stunners! The Tissot pips the Omega at the post for me. Amazing dial and gorgeous case shape!!
